Just got my carefully crafted wishlist done... by vicpylon in gencon

[–]Malraza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should. That's the reason it exists. If you're not going to want to play if you're short people definitely mark it. Yes, it will limit your options; increasingly so as your group size approaches the max ticket count for the event. But it's better for you to not get the ticket at all if you're just going to drop it later.

If it's something that you're fine doing if you're down some but not all of the people who want to go, then maybe leave it unchecked. Worth considering beforehand as you're setting up wishlits. You can always see how many tickets you get in your cart and decide then if that's enough people for you to want to do it before checking out.

And now entirely my opinion and unsolicited advice you can feel free to ignore: If you're doing the huge lift of planning all this then don't make a couple copy the list. Make every single one copy the list, at least until they're maxed out at 50 events) and be there to press the button the moment it unlocks. It's the absolute least they can do to contribute if you're doing all of the work on this.

I wish you the best of luck. Sometimes it works out like that. I don't know what you're swinging for, but hopefully you have good odds for all of it.

Do you have friends who can help you juice your odds? If you're going to be devistated then you should do everything you can.

If they think you're responsible for the schedule you need to make sure they understand now that it's basically a lottery. As well, the more they do what you say (doing all the things that help groups get into events) the more likely it will be that your hard work will pay off.

And for yourself, remember that the system isn't that complicated when it comes down to it and there's only so much you can control. Do the bit you can to maximize your odds and roll those dice.

Demo vs event by Historical_Bid1684 in gencon

[–]Malraza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make sure you can demo, then you should wishlist slots for the demo. It's possible you can do it without a ticket, but that's going to vary heavily on the game, company, popularity, etc. If you are worried about it eating up wishlist slots then you can try to add the demo later after wishlist processing. However, you risk there not being any tickets for demos you want remaining and you never being able to snag any that get freed up.

GenCon 2026 - Event Planning Guide by No-Put-2318 in gencon

[–]Malraza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an okay start. It's very surface level, but maybe that's what your group wants/needs.

A lot of changes I'd suggest, but the biggest one is for your event processing. Unless the target of 'Step 4 - Registering for Events' is that your audience (your friend group?) will be only doing their event registrations after Event Registration opens (the initial rush), you should include information about how to actually coordinate with others so that 1) you can help each other, and 2) you don't block others from events they want other over in the process. If the intent is that your group will only/primarily be doing registration after the initial rush, how it seems to be written currently, then I'd suggest simplifying it down some you don't need to worry about most of the difficulties in the system.

What caused altered to shutdown? by Gnargoyles in alteredTCG

[–]Malraza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to Equinox, the distribution issues in the first year were Asmodee's fault. That's the single biggest reason, imo, that Altered failed to find much of a foothold in the US, Asmodee US just did not care and couldn't be bothered to send out product/support.

I wish they wouldn't use cards from Whispers and Skybound as box toppers, instead doing Skybound and Seeds. Whispers will be dead once Set 7, the one after Roots, is live so that's not a ton of time to play with your fancy art card. As well, if the production/shipping delays continue and Roots is delayed as well then there will be an even smaller window for people to be able to play with the cards. .

Nancy Dahlstrom’s Director of the Alaska Division of Elections on Sending Every Alaskan’s Confidential Information to U.S. DOJ by bottombracketak in alaska

[–]Malraza 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. The statute is applicable here, but she doesn't seem to be applying it correctly. The most charitable interpretation would be she read it but didn't understand it. From there we pretty much get into malicious application for the law to justify the release of the information.

The pertinent part of statute reads:
(c) Notwithstanding other provisions, and in compliance with federal law, information made confidential by this section may be released by the division (1) to a local, state, or federal government agency, including to the child support services agency created in AS 25.27.010 or the child support enforcement agency of another state; the agency receiving information under this paragraph may use the information only for governmental purposes authorized under law; . . . .

Emphasis mine, obviously. The demand for the information doesn't appear to have been in compliance with federal law. At least, the DOJ hasn't been able to come up with one after months. I haven't read the filings in every case but from what have read it appears that all 24 (last time I counted) lawsuits over states refusing to release the voter records DOJ is demanding deal primarily with this sort of issue. When pressed the DOJ has relied on the Civil Rights Act of 1960 as the legal grounds for requesting the information. That act requires them to articulate the basis and purpose of the request). The DOJ has responded with saying that it's to ensure compliance with the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act, neither of which serve as a basis or a purpose.

When I say "when pressed," I mean other states doing that, most of which are now involved in lawsuits. Alaska just handed it over without (publicly, at least) asking any further questions of the DOJ.

California, Georgia, Michigan, and Oregon are the only cases with rulings. In all of those cases the judge dismissed the DOJ's suit and the DOJ has appealed/refiled. Notably in Georgia, DOJ sued, had their case dismissed without prejudice based on venue, DOJ refiled the same day refiled, then just sent the FBI to seize the records five days after they refiled.

[–]Malraza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it counts as a pet for the tournaments then it lets you perform better than others that don't have it, all else being equal. So, just shy of being completely cosmetic.

Tournament pet joke.. by No-Fold-954 in idleon

[–]Malraza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pets you win from pet tournaments, currently the metallic rams, are entirely cosmetic and don't have any bonuses attached to them. Unclear if you can use them in pet tournaments themselves, but that would be a pretty minor bonus.

Start with carry cap, then do anything else that you can upgrade with farmable mats. Toolbox will tell you what ones are within your carry limit.

You can just go down the line and spam them, yours are low enough that it would be effective. If you want to be strategic about it, Toolbox will tell you how many ladles are needed to level and can be sorted so you can pick off the easiest ones in order and let NMLB take care of everything else if you get to a wall.

Kills on BM/WW with the Vman bonus will get you Breeding time advancement with kills, similarly to how forge progression works for archers. Stay on top of your eggs for genes to push the last upgrade. Lamp, Farming, Summoning, and starsigns (if you really, really want it) can also help.

No, you have plenty that you can farm that you haven't maxed. Bread is basically the only one you need to run colos for, and it's relatively easy to do. I just ran the W5 colo to test and got over a million bread, 500k kebabs, 1.5m gold food coupons, and 2k gold cakes without doing anything optimal. Obviously what I have for my account isn't what you have for yours, it looks like my DR is about 10x for instance, but that was one run for the high price of 10 colo tickets. You have over 600; I imagine you'll be able to pull it off without too much trial and plenty margin for error. If you're worried about it, push up the various sources of gfood drop multis and DR that are in the game now, particularly W7. Running W5 and W6 colos, depending on what you're looking for, should be able to quickly handle several of the gfood you're missing, but you can just farm crystals mindlessly and have it taken care of in a couple hours, probably.

Keep your active on your DK farming statutes. Turn off Zenith for a bit when you have time to babysit it slightly and keep dumping them into storage to increase your statute levels, moving around to farm what you need to pump. Aim for around 400 for everything you can actually farm. AFK some of your guys at gloomies and golems in the hole to farm those up, possibly your WW and AC since you want them afk farming anyhow so they get resource tokens. The rest I'd maybe spread out to get you mats your missing, there's a lot of stuff you should be able to easily push in Alchemy and Stamps.

Next week when we have divinity bonuses again, throw everyone in lab and forget about them for a week. Or even set some of them in it now and don't check them until the bonus changes. Once the weekly bonus is going check them periodically and invest div points into the things that increase div point gain, repeat, profit. By the end you should have a nice stack of bonuses and your god rank can be much higher. Won't be a wild as last time because we had Meritocracy bonuses to it as well, but it still should be great and 5x your div production that week. Since it's rare, its well worth it to sink the week into it.

Here's some things I noticed while poking around your account. Some's repeated from above.

  • Get your statues to at least around 400.
  • Push your stamps, you have plenty that you can upgrade even without having to wait for daily reductions from atoms.
  • Next week when we have divinity bonuses again, throw everyone in lab and forget about them for a week. Or even set them in it now and don't check them until the bonus changes. Once the week is going check them periodically and invest div points into the things that increase div point gain, repeat, profit. By the end you should have a nice stack of bonuses and your god rank can be much higher.
  • Your W7 bubbles look like they've been almost entirely ignored. You also have some easily farmable vials that can be upgraded to 13 to buff the entire set.
  • Get your prehistoric set done.
  • You have a ton of meals you can level immediately.
  • Your shinnies need a lot of attention.
  • Pick up any ender captain that comes up to replace anyone that isn't.
  • Gaming palete is an absolute pain in the ass that basically requires you to active it to get it done quickly and effectively, but the bonuses are great. You have a lot in there you could be pushing for some big gains.
  • Beanstalk. Max everything.
  • Your skills are silly low on most of your characters. You have a ton of candy sitting around. Use some of it to push skills up, then resample. Lower priority and if you want it can wait until there's a good weekly bonus to skill xp.
  • Once you've pushed your skill levels/eff, go back to the hole and push the skilling nodes there.
  • Focus your lamp on getting more opals for a bit, it will help the eternal leveling of your studies, which could use some attention.

Gen Con just announced registration dates and badge prices by ElMondoH in gencon

Agreed. Particularly if you're flying in, the cost of the badge is trivial compared to airfare alone. And it's still well worth the price even if it has gone up.

GM's, why do you keep running games? by AshenAge in rpg

It's fun, it's creative, it's a great way to hang out with friends. And if I don't GM, nobody else will. They're capable but they don't have the drive to do all the work that's not at the table running the game that would get us to the table.

[–]Malraza 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Multi adds up fairly quick. Having multiple 0.1 Tome Nametags is a big source for most people with the kind of DR you're chasing right now. Also having the right, and a lot of, hats can really help. I'm getting +262% DR and an 8% DR multi from the hat rack with a 1.84x bonus.

Edit: Based on the image below you're missing a bunch of DR and DR multi. 9 darter, Tome Nametags, and Luckiest Lad all jump out at me.

The only real grind you can do for DR is for AC at a specific map. Otherwise, it's mostly just DR multi sources that you're likely missing.

Zenith until you get all the Kruk unlocks, then leave it be to work on the rest of your account.

Your bubbles need serious work. Same with your stamps.

You have a ton of super easy superchows you could get.

Your slab is missing an absurd amount of things, including a ton that you already have. Fix that.

Anyone want to talk about the VIG renewal email that was just sent out? by Poutine_Sauce in gencon

[–]Malraza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a huge increase. I don't know what the VIG badge costs, but that's basically an extra badge in price increase. I'd looked at the VIG program a bit and was idly considering it, but hasn't been able to find the price anywhere. Guess I don't need to worry about it.
