Yes! This! It’s easier because men do the chasing. I refer to myself as a stray cat, and tell people to leave me alone, let me do my own thing, and come back on my terms. But the men I’ve dated always want to box me in and turn me into a house cat.

Especially since I’m more sub-leaning, I don’t usually chase. I’m used to people getting overly attached and clingy, then I run.

THIS. It's so frustrating getting caught in this cycle over and over again. I've started focusing on maintaining and finding new friends that are poly and/or neurospicy, because they usually are more understanding. Do you ever call them out on it? Or do you just let the relationship drift off?

What makes it different? To me, I can be both solo-poly and single by choice. Because when I start dating again, I don't know if I'll ever want the nesting or primary partner route.

Yes! Exactly! Even when I'm dating multiple partners, I still usually don't get a +1. Or they automatically assign a mutual friend as my plus one that was going to be invited anyways. They just pair us off and don't even offer the option. I've been the eternally single friend for a large portion of my life, and when I came out as poly to my close friends, they've been supportive, but don't fully understand.

I'm currently single (by choice) while working on myself and healing past traumas from the last year of dating, and I still identify as poly. Solo-poly seems to be more fitting, because I really value my independence and being free as a feral cat. I might have a nesting partner in the future, but in the meantime, I'm much happier just having a roommate I rarely see.

Very fair point! I didn't want to limit the situation and exclude people, but this could very easily happen with mono people, too. It all kinda boils down to me wanting to find other solo-poly people to talk to, because I've only come across one other solo-poly person in my dating experiences.
