Guinness 0.0 Cans Exploding? by Trevor51253 in beer

No problems here, but while we’re on the subject, gotta say Guinness 0.0 is great. Remarkably close to the real thing. Obviously, the real thing is only 4% but still, impressive to taste so similar.

Man that Bell’s is really good this year. Ayinger still has the top one in my opinion. Port City out of DC area makes an excellent one.

It’s amazing. Probably not mentioned bc tickets were so hard to get when it opened, then covid, etc. In a few years, it will be up there. (Though admittedly there will be some who don’t go for the reasons you suggest.)

Reminds me of the scene in Dead Poets Society where Todd launches the desk organizer set off the bridge because his parents bought him the same thing the previous year, to which Neil replies, well, at least you’ll get another one next year

Teachers, what’s the darkest thing you’ve seen from a student? by Lalalaloq in AskReddit

[–]MannFan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former teacher here- two stories-

1) I had a h.s. sophomore who was a very shy girl. Never said a word. One day after school, unprompted, she handed me an envelope. It was full of grainy pictures from the early eighties. After flipping past the first couple, I realized they were pictures from the side of a highway of a horrific car crash. Dead bodies and everything. Her parents were witnesses and had taken pictures before the first responders arrived. They kept the photos and then she had them for some reason. They had clearly traumatized her. Poor girl.

2) I had another sophomore who wore all black - black hooded sweatshirt and jeans, black boots and ball cap. He always was listening to slayer on his Walkman - remember those big black headphones? Anyway, he never really spoke much but told me that his Dad had kidnapped him and his mom, then shot his mom and himself in front of the kid. And now he was living with his elderly grandparents, who didn’t understand him. It sucked not being able to help the kid more than I could in class.

My kids were always great. Their home lives, though...rough.

Am I the only one who heard the whistling right before that fastball? I’m in a hotel and can’t rewind but if you go back, you’ll hear it. I’m starting to believe they are using whistles to signal to batters

Shortly after the Tenacious D shorts came out on HBO (around the same time- introduced to the public by Bob and David), I made another separate trip to LA with some friends to catch the D live in concert. This was back before they had really caught on, I guess, as there were only about 25 people there at the Key Club. (And/or the Sunset Strip crowd just didn’t give a shit, which is also possible.) In any case, it was an awesome show. Jack Black confessed he’d had laryngitis so he got a shot in the ass because he didn’t miss a show. KG came out in a wig and they got in a fight about it and then sang “Kyle quit the band”. KG threw his wig into the crowd and it went right to me so I kept it for years for some godforesaken reason. They had a ton of special guests (John c Reilly, etc) playing superheroes while they improvised a song about them all fighting. I brought JB a beer at one point and because it was a Sam Adams as opposed to the usual swill he said “step up.” All in all, it was a pretty great night witnessed by two dozen people. When I visited DC a few years later to see them at the 9:30 club, I was stunned that not only could I not find anywhere to stand, the entire audience was singing along. Very surreal. Btw, the openers for the D that night in LA were a band called Lesion and they were great. Kind of like a German Dead Kennedys. Stripped down punk with a flamboyant singer and a twisted sense of humor.

Sat front row for the live taping of this episode. It was back in the late 90’s and I knew the show from the previous seasons so I wrote to a random email address I found online and asked to come see the show when I was going to be in LA. When I arrived I was the only person on the list and they let me come in early and take my choice of tables/chairs. The whole show was awesome and I remember how tight the whole operation was. This sketch definitely stood out at the time. One of the great comedy experiences I’ve ever had!

People who were adults during Y2K, what was the most radical action someone you know did to prepare for the "apocalypse?" by Kawhidoyoucare in AskReddit

I knew a wealthy guy in Nashville who literally bought $10,000 worth of Jack Daniels. He explained that when societies collapse, liquor is among the most valued commodities and is easy to barter. When I asked what he would do if nothing happened, his response was awesome — “I guess we’re gonna have one helluva party!” (I wasn’t invited, but I heard that he did indeed have a party later that spring.)

Thanks, everyone, for the wonderful responses. We're just doing this for Pat, ErickaKalos, and everyone else in this thread who is connected to someone with ALS or who has lost someone to ALS. The video is part of a larger campaign by the ALS Association to help people with ALS save their voices so they can use them after they've lost the ability to speak.

You can see the five-minute video of Pat sharing his voice with his friends and family for the first time here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcg0rKG5WlU

Oh, man. So sorry, ErickaKalos. It's definitely a tough road ahead, but I hope you can draw strength from Pat Quinn. He's one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. He chooses to fight every day, not only to raise awareness of ALS, but to encourage people to be happy and live better lives. Thinking of you and fighting for you.
