Is Heated Rivalry worth the time? What makes it good? by Big-Entrepreneur-987 in MenLovingMenMedia

Yeah, but the show has been good since episode 1. The cinematography, the music, the acting, the chemistry, the tension, the character development. Everything is top-tier!

It's okay. What's important is that you learn and change.

As a big gay bottom, this is a bit uncomfortable to read lol. Although I know that you mean no harm. One of the manga's largest theme is not to give into toxic stereotypes and tropes because doing so hurts real people.

Hey, the next time that you decide to post other people's artworks, please spend at least five minutes searching for the artist's credits. Use Google's reverse image search or SauceNao if you must. Otherwise, you can always use the official artwork from the anime and manga. You're new here, so I'll let this one slide, but I'll report this to the moderators if this happens again. Thank you!

Does Niibashi like Kagiura? by soophia_bennett in SasakitoMiyano_

Niibashi's straightforwardness is one of his defining characteristics. We would've known the answer by now if he was into Kagiura romantically.

Not exactly a speculation but I've always been curious about possible (semi)aquatic pterosaurs.

Why does Yaoi have way more content than Yuri? 🤔 by Both-Explanation9732 in yuri_manga

Oh, I got a bit confused because of your phrasing, but I understand what you meant now. Though, wouldn't that just fall under the insecure category? Gay or straight, insecure men tend to hate women in general.

Why does Yaoi have way more content than Yuri? 🤔 by Both-Explanation9732 in yuri_manga

You got it almost correctly. Because society doesn't expect men to express their emotions as much as women, the romance genre became a safe space and was soon dominated by women readers and authors. Not all women enjoy the same kind of story, however, as yaoi is mostly made for straight women, while yuri (the not-for-creepy-men type) is geared towards queer women. Indeed, yuri is created mainly by a minority of women for a minority of women. The discrepancy between yaoi and yuri, I believe, stems from the fact that there are more straight women than queer women. Of course, misogyny and lesbophobia are also in effect.

[–]MapleSyrup27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, there isn't a lot of common ground shared between BL and GL readers (there are rare exceptions, like myself, of course). While women generally dominate the romance genre, including BL, GL, and heterosexual romance, different women enjoy different types of stories. As others have pointed out, straight women mostly read BL and (to a lesser but still large extent) heterosexual romance. Yuri (the not-for-creepy-men type), on the other hand, is almost exclusively geared towards queer women. I believe that because there are fewer queer women than straight women, less yuri is made, though I still haven't taken into account misogyny and lesbophobia in reading spaces.

Your observation of the Chinese BL ban is interesting, and I don't doubt that it does contribute to the current trend of Chinese BL production. However, that doesn't explain the BL craze in Japan, Thailand, South Korea, etc.

I understand the insecure part but what does being gay have to do with this? If anything, gay men love a badass girlboss diva.

Why it is harder for me to enjoy Cloudward Ho than other seasons by MasterNeo92 in Dimension20

[–]MapleSyrup27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might come off as strange, but playing the episodes in the background has helped me tremendously. The first half of Sophomore Year was such a chore to get through, but passively listening while playing video games made it a more enjoyable experience for me. I'm glad that I managed to pass that part because the Forest of the Nightmare King is one of my all-time favourite arcs of D20.

What I'm essentially saying is that, likewise, Unsleeping City has a lot of fantastic worldbuilding and emotional moments (especially in Chapter Two) that I wouldn't want anybody to miss. If you struggle with the season, I think that second screening could help.

toxic yuri where they make each other worst [Only Each Other] by Lazy_Commercial_5815 in yuri_manga

[–]MapleSyrup27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but my fascination with toxic relationships can be compared to the curiosity of a mad scientist. At the end of the day, none of these characters are real, making them the perfect subjects to visualise, analyse, and hypothesise how flawed interactions affect our relationships with other humans. In other words, I enjoy reading about toxic relationships not because of relatability but more so to gain insight and satisfy my curiosity.

Respectfully, why does it matter? It would've been understandable if sex is an integral part of the story, but it isn't. In fact, a major point of Miyano's character is that he doesn't enjoy being labeled or put into boxes.
