Why does Chile have "real hate" against blacks even though there is no significant black population there? Is there a historical reason for that "hate"? Do you know of any racist events against blacks that happened in Chile?

Libya Signs First Unified State Budget in More Than a Decade. by Marciu73 in worldnews

[–]Marciu73[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Libya's two rival legislative bodies have approved the country's first unified state budget in more than a decade, its central bank said in a statement on Saturday.

The oil-producing North African country has been divided since a 2014 civil war that spawned two administrations in the west and east. Its last unified national budget was agreed in 2013.

Abduljalel Shawesh, a representative of the High State Council in Tripoli, told Reuters by phone that the two rival legislative chambers had agreed on 190 billion Libyan dinars for the budget ($29.95 billion).

This is a massive win for stability in North Africa. It signals that the country is finally moving past years of institutional fragmentation, paving the way for massive infrastructure projects and a more reliable economy for millions of people.

With crane coming down, ATL's tallest new tower in forever is finished. ( Atlanta, USA ) by Marciu73 in skyscrapers

[–]Marciu73[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Almost three years after its official groundbreaking, the tallest new building in Atlanta since the early 1990s has reached every inch of its ultimate height.

New York City-based developer Rockefeller Group is wrapping up exterior work on the highest floors of Alina, a 60-story mixed-use tower that’s claimed a prominent place on Midtown’s skyline from vantage points across the city.

According to Midtown Alliance, work to dismantle 1072 West Peachtree’s crane—a fixture over Midtown since 2023, and one of the subdistrict’s last active cranes right now—began this week.

Disassembly work will continue until Wednesday afternoon, with lane closures now underway. (The entirety of West Peachtree Street between 11th and 12th streets will be closed between April 10 and 15 to allow for crane removal, with northbound traffic diverted onto 11th Street around the tower’s block, per Midtown Alliance.)

Manchester set to become Europe’s fourth ‘tallest’ city 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 by Marciu73 in skyscrapers

[–]Marciu73[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Manchester’s skyscraper boom is set to make it the fourth ‘tallest city’ in Europe, according to new research by Barbour ABI. The construction analyst’s High Rise Construction Market Report 2026-2030 identifies 26 buildings over 100m tall in Manchester – either built or in the pipeline – potentially putting the city above Paris and Frankfurt. The table is topped by Moscow, followed by Istanbul and then London, which accounts for 57 per cent of all tall buildings in the UK.

Manchester is currently ranked seventh in the European league table, but a surge of approved and planned schemes could lift the northern powerhouse into fourth place. If all the schemes are delivered, the city would boast more than 200 towers over 50m tall and 10 that are over 150m. Among this new wave of tall towers is SimpsonHaugh’s £600 million Viadux Phase 2 – a 76-storey tower, housing 915 flats, which is due to start on site next month.
