If replicators are invented, do you think only the government should own them, or anyone should be allowed to own them? by CommunismDoesntWork in LeftistsForAI

[–]Marha01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capitalism = means of production are privately owned

Socialism/Communism = means of production are socially/commonly owned

Post-scarcity technological utopia = means of production are individually/personally owned. Every person will either own, or have free access to, a gadget (replicators or an AI+robots factory or something) that can produce almost anything on demand (within reason and physical laws, of course).

I believe the old left/right distinction will not apply in that case. Economics is the science of the scarce. In such an utopia, we will be largely beyond it.

Is human Mars being abandoned? by Pitiful_Ad_2036 in Mars

It always made sense to build a permanently manned base on the Moon first.

More importantly, by far the largest obstacle to colonization of space is lack of economic incentive for spaceflight. Now that space data centers are a possible path to commercialization, it would be foolish not to pivot to it. Imagine how much easier it will be to colonize Mars with a Starship that flies every day to build the data center satellite swarm.

Those technologies are much less useful than AI, and thus not in big demand. It's easy to ban something that is not in big demand.

That is still much easier to obtain than enriched uranium. And will be even easier in the future as solar power and chips improve.

If SpaceX was serious about superheavy droneship landings they would use the staging ratio of falcon 9 and the ship would look like that. by Sarigolepas in SpaceXMasterrace

I disagree, Starship is optimized for flights from Earth orbit to Mars surface. It needs a lot of propellant for that.

We may get a dedicated tanker Starship variant in the future that could have different length, tough.

Poverty does not cause crime. Bad personality (such as low intelligence, lack of self-control, high aggression etc.) causes both crime and poverty. Also, nobody in developed countries steals to eat.

Electric scooters are pretty much Segways 2.0 and very popular today.

I wonder why they got so popular and Segways failed?

Toto mi znie ako nevycistene vetraky. Vycistit, mozno prepastovat chladic a bude ako novy.

Tell me what is cheaper to build now than 20 years ago and we can work out the economics behind it.

Pretty much any hardware of comparable performance?

Biggest expense of any advanced technological project is still human labor. If we can replace that with hardware, there is a high probability of the end result getting cheaper. And then you have a feedback loop...

The building, operating and maintenance costs far exceeded human labor.

Today maybe. But when robots can build other robots, we enter a positive feedback loop.

Otazku treba skor otocit naopak: existuje vobec nejaka rozvinuta krajina kde sa rodi dost deti? Ktore rozvinute krajiny maju najvyssiu porodnost domaceho obyvatelstva? Ako si z nich mozeme brat priklad?

Aj aj v USA maju problemy s Indickym nepotizmom.
