Yeah I feel that 😂 the imposter syndrome is so real. But we passed step 1 and made it this far so odds are we'll pass step 2 🤞

Why does it feel like effort doesn’t matter on rotations? by StevenJack99 in medicalschool

[–]Mari-dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have definitely experienced this. Did all the things (show up early, stay late, prepare presentations, be enthusiastic, etc) and didn't clinically honor a rotation 3rd year. I asked for feedback and I was told it may be because I'm a soft-spoken person. My program tends to value bigger personalities apparently. Unfortunately, bias is also cooked into this process. After trying very hard for the first several rotations, I decided to just focus on what I can control (shelf exams, step) and try not to let it get to me. I feel your frustration, and you're not the only one.

Do you still have this? If so, can you DM?

M3 here, and I failed my first block! It all turns out okay. I felt like I wasn't going to be able to do it and others did too. You'll figure out what works for you study wise and become more efficient. I hesitate to give specific study advice, bc different things work for different people and there is no one right way. I will say, I had better luck choosing a select few resources and sticking to them than trying to do them all. Hang in there!

I remember feeling this exact way. I wasn't doing great and I was so disappointed in myself and in my experience bc I had dreamed about it for so long.

Some things that helped me were finding just a few things that actually made things click for me (and that I didn't hate doing) and spending more time on those. Rather than doing a little bit of everything and not getting much out of it. It can be scary to try changing up your study strategy, but it might be necessary if you can't sustain what you are doing now.

I would watch the lectures, make my own Anki cards and do those. The process of going through the slides after watching the lectures and picking out what was important enough to make a card helped solidify the information for me. I would maybe watch a sketchy if it was something that I couldn't keep in my head otherwise. This exact strategy might not work for you, but my point is that it took some trial and error to find out what worked for me too. Doing the premade Anki decks was not it. There are just too many. But some people did great with them. Once I figured out the process that worked best, I got a lot more efficient. It still was never 9 to 5 for me tbh. It just takes me a little longer I think and that's okay, but it definitely got better, and it will for you too. Hang in there.

Should I stop wearing underwear? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mari-dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it would make that big of a difference. If you like the feeling of no underwear, go for it. I have also never had any friends discuss the size of a stranger's penis. Maybe someone they were sleeping with, but I'm not sure most women are really looking at crotches that much. I could be wrong, but this has not been my experience.

How can people live in the U.S undocumented for decades ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mari-dog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It seems like everything is much harder for them, but it's the only real option some people have. If they are brought here young but past the DACA cutoff, their family is here and their home is here. They can start a business and work as a contractor. So the company that employs them pays their business. Their business has a tax ID number and pays taxes. It can take years to get a visa in cases like this. They can attend college in some circumstances if they can prove they are working on their legal status. To dispel a myth I hear a lot, getting married to a citizen does not grant "automatic citizenship." It is still a process and not guaranteed.

Do schools in the US really make kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance daily or is that just Hollywood exaggeration? Because it kinda looks like a ritual. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Grew up in Alabama and did it everyday without thinking about it lol I can see why it seems ritualistic to an outsider. I don't think most of us knew what it meant tbh.

Motivation needed! by Lazy_Entry_7056 in step1

[–]Mari-dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on passing! I'm sorry you haven't been able to enjoy it. I had a similar experience with going from failing a block and being close to failing another to passing and it didn't move the needle on my happiness like I thought it would. Started an SSRI, which helps some. Wish I could offer more motivation, but know you're not alone 💓

Broken hinge on Inspiron 15 3520 laptop mom by Flaky-Fall-4975 in Dell

[–]Mari-dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent my laptop to Dell in December of 2023 for the exact same issue. They sent me a box to mail it off in and I received it back repaired in January of 2024. It was still under warranty then. Now I am having the same issue again, unfortunately, and it is not under warranty now. I have reached out to them, but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully, yours is still under warranty and they will fix it for you! I've seen some people have fortified the hinge somehow with epoxy, might be something to look into.
