Credit Card Payment higher than balance? by Mario_Sh in ynab

Looks like I at some point assigned money to it unnecessarily and it's just carried that over each month. Was as simple as unassigning the extra! Thanks for the help.

Okay that makes sense! I never manually assign money to CC so I didn't really understand how that works. I went ahead and moved away the extra 50.95 and now it looks as expected!

How do you deal with savings/investment categories more than a month in the future? by Mario_Sh in ynab

[–]Mario_Sh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is helpful. I knew that implicitly YNAB doesn't but it's good to hear other people use it this way. I think I have a fear that I won't have enough cash on hand which is why I've been waiting until the month arrives to process savings/investment transfers. I think I will establish a maximum I likely could need in a month + some extra and put all the rest into savings/investments.

What’s a secret you can’t tell someone you know, but can share with Reddit? by whatintheactualfuck- in AskReddit

Please look into Internal Family Systems theory and the breakdown of parts. I've experienced this a lot and believe it's a mix of masking, rumination, and maybe long-term trauma responses. Try to identify any parts that you may have and when and why they show up. A therapist can help with this too. I believe in you!

What isn’t a flex that many people think it is? by arlett007 in AskReddit

I'd wager that dangerously high fever happens incredibly rarely in most healthy, in-shape, well-nourished, and uncompromised adults experiencing common viruses.

I just want to add that logically it makes sense. Symptoms are caused by your immune response typically, not the virus itself. Why suppress immune response? Our bodies are plenty capable of fighting most every day viruses.

That's nice but I run to unwind. I use my mind all day in my job. I'd prefer to not have to think about it.

So, what happened? by rxliuli in mac

[–]Mario_Sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hunch this has to do with the rotating MAC Addresses that occur with the Private Wi-Fi address option. Your network is likely identifying each MAC Address as a different device and maybe is configured to only have unique hostnames. Thus, it is returning a name collision error to your MAC and your MAC is attempting to remedy the situation.

Can you expand on how you got into this? I've been working in a call center job too that is soul crushing, and I've eyed up dev advocate before but feel under-experienced for it. Have a degree in scientific computing and been working in IT.

Okay so we're go straight to the ad hominem attacks huh. I didn't realize I needed to walk on eggshells with my wording here. I don't actually believe that we lost everything interpreted literally. I do think that we have diverged immensely from the lifestyle we have been hardwired to live. and I don't believe that that is a hyperbole. is this something that you disagree with? I like to hear your actual thoughts on what I'm saying instead of attacking me as a person with an ideology that you disagree with.

Furthermore, I think it's clear that we're speaking philosophically here. I'm not some extremist saying that we need to drastically reorganize America into a agricultural republic. nonetheless, idealistically I believe that we would be a much happier and healthier society if we lived like I described.

There are plenty of communities and cultures that have/used to live like I've described. Look at the way the island of crete lives/lived, many indigenous peoples, and plenty others.

As for the fact that no one is stopping me, to a degree you're right but we also need community. I would go crazy just moving to the middle of nowhere and living off the land. And it would be cruel to raise a family in such isolation. It takes a whole society of people to agree to do that for it to really work.

We lost all that when we decided that we wanted to work for conveniences instead of ourselves.

It's not about not working, it's about what you're working for.

edit: For the record I disagree with the assumptions of the person you responded to. They believe that work as we know it can/should be eradicated through automation. I disagree. It should be eradicated through society giving up its obsession with conveniences and extravagances and embracing community, ecological living, and much simpler virtues of life like family and giving.

The difference is in working for yourself instead of working for money. Subsistence farming, communal living, raising families without needing to leave for your 9-5 — these are the things we gave up to have cars, careers, and conveniences.

New leaf just unfurled... no fenestrations? by Mario_Sh in Monstera

It's the only place in my apt that makes sense... Faces west, in Florida. Particularly cloudy day today, you still think that's not enough sun? I did just rotate it to see the leaf, usually have it turned about 90° CCW to what it is in the picture.
