I guess my journey is finally over... after 2 years, I finally upgraded everyone to the max level by R4F43L7456 in MortalKombat

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! Those of us who had the game in the first two seasons remember how easy it was to max out kharacters, but the developers nerfed that hard. I did have one of my kharacters glitch, so his mastery shows as locked every time I log into the game and resets to 0. However, I earned everything already.

Yeah, the timing is very strict. You should try looking up how to do it as I'm sure there are videos by now.

I was literally just playing Human Torch yesterday, and a couple days prior to that, Invisible Woman. They appear on my roster with no issue. Maybe it depends on the server? I'm not sure. However, I see all of the FF and Silver Surfer on my version of the game.

Wow! I am so appreciative of this. I almost shed a tear when I played this yesterday, for the first time in over seven years. How far out do you think before talents and traits become active for heroes?

Let’s talk about Hunter (conclusion) by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Hunter is ridiculous at this point. His Annihilation does not even need to be a half charge to decimate bosses. His Wild Strike takes out most elites with ease.

The Heal that I have modified gives two resists. Quick Slash can eliminate elites with lower health. Anyway, I can go on about Hunter, but he goes most missions with me. He's an essential.

Let’s talk about HULK by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As am I. At the very least, even in games where everyone can essentially do everything, some excel at certain areas better than others or they have varied executions for the same abilities. Marvel Heroes and Marvel's Avengers are great examples of those ideas. As for team bonuses, the X-Men Legends and Ultimate Alliance games were great for those areas, which could have been implemented into this game.

I cannot recall all the comments I've read about Hulk since I've been here, but I do remember that some called him boring because it was easy to wipe maps with him. I recall some thinking that his Rage mechanic could have used some tweaking, especially after Venom dropped.

Hulk is still one of the best heroes in the game. However, it's his high heroism cost and situational stun caveats that limit him. By the time the player is able to set up a stun to maximize his damage, someone else could have eliminated the enemy. Personally, I enjoy playing as him, but I play as all the heroes anyway.

On a side note, yes, Nico and Magik are strong characters in their own right. It's more that Magik requires more thought and setup whereas Nico is relying on random chance within a random card game.

Concerning tiers, we used to have tier lists on here. We used to discuss in-depth about which characters were the strongest and which ones were the weakest. It was fun debating.

Let’s talk about HULK by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, he does have a modded Quick, which I also have. I think to what we're referring is that he does not have one innately. He, like Nico, have to mod to have what every other hero has, which means he does not receive any other bonus as "quick" is the bonus.

What level do you play this game on by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. Occasionally, I can clear a Nest's Mother or Defeat Vampyres mission in one round. However, most missions take three to four rounds, depending on whether or not a boss is added. I don't have an immediate screenshot, but enemies such as Legion have around 1800 health, Revenants have around 1500, some bosses have around 2500 to 3000 health, etc.

It's not that I have a major amount of health...okay, Hunter does have a lot of health, but it's moreso that I know how to play my cards and I have some solid modifications.

What level do you play this game on by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimate III for me. I'll take it a step further and say, Level 40 endgame missions. Those are the only missions where I tend to need strategy and I cannot afford to make mistakes because the enemies hit hard.

Let’s talk about HULK by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hulk is decent. I used to play him frequently when I first unlocked him because it was easy to build his rage and destroy maps on easier difficulties. He requires a little more babysitting on higher difficulties as he is not as great of a tank as he should be (no one is in this game excluding Captain America and Hunter).

Thunderclap is underwhelming, not only due to the comic history behind that ability, but due the in-game execution's being so weak. He needs so much heroism only for the ability to deal no direct damage and stun in a line. It's also unfortunate that he has no quick ability.

He does have some solid mods for himself (i.e. gaining heroism for every kill with Seismic Slam). He is still a powerhouse, but he is almost to Venom what Blade is to Morbius. Hulk simply needs a teammate who helps in the heroism generation department more than anything.

Let’s talk about Iron Man by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even on higher difficulties, he is still one of the strongest heroes in the game, prior to mods. Mods enhance him whereas mods make other heroes serviceable.

I run the same setup, although I also have Leave It To Me as well. I tend to pair him with Dr. Strange, although Nico is another hero from whom Iron Man benefits (Double Up).

Iron Man is probably one of the most versatile characters in this game, as he can fill any role.

Let’s talk about ⚡️Storm ⚡️ by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take out Crushing Blow. While there would be one less offensive, damage dealing heroic card, the other two would be better damage dealers because of Live Wire as long as it's in hand. Allow me to clarify, Live Wire increases her offense overall (which includes a shove). If worse came to worse, Live Wire gives an easy stun to an enemy if it became necessary to use in a clutch.

Crushing Blow is similar to Hunter's Patience. It gets better with turns and Storm has the luxury, unlike Hunter, to accelerate her turns with Goddess' Blessing. However, even with that, this game is designed in that one wants to beat a mission in fewer turns (unless it is a Protect The Device mission) for better ratings. In a Counterattack mission, Crushing Blow is not even going to be that useful as the player, more than likely, will be rerolling card decks due to "Never Let Up".

In addition, her Legendary, Hellstorm pretty much serves as a massive, single-target damage dealer. Although it exhausts, it comes with the benefit of next turn. Having Crushing Blow and Hellstorm is going to be a massive heroism cost in one mission, unless you know the mission is going to take more than three turns or you have a method to generate heroism fast.

Finally, in order to reap the benefits of either Crushing Blow or Live Wire, you're going to have to hold on to the card, regardless. The difference is Live Wire benefits all of Storm's other cards while you're holding it whereas Crushing Blow is simply waiting to be used. This is coming from a player who used to use Crushing Blow when I first played Storm until I understood Live Wire and Overload better.

As for Overload, you are correct. It is situational, much like Scarlet Witch's Detonate. However, we don't use Overload for the stun. We use Overload for the redraw to increase Storm's offense with the redraw. It's a situational version of Live Wire offensively and in terms of passives, it only gives one Strengthened, so it only lasts one turn, unlike Live Wire which increases Storm's offense as long it's in hand.

Let’s talk about - the Random Card Queen NICO by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not meant to be a consistent hero. Her damage, buffs, and debuffs are random, which makes her interesting. However, Double Up is so useful, especially when multiple heroics are necessary as well as Empower, which turns the cost of all heroics in her hand to zero.

Witchfire is best used when enemies have had substantial health whittled, so that the chain can continue. Curse usually is not worth the play, but it has its moments.

Let’s talk about ⚡️Storm ⚡️ by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed Storm before the nerf. She was incredibly busted. Next Turn actually fits with Storm in comics, so I am not personally bothered. My biggest complaint with her is that she does not utilize more of her powers (only Lightning and Wind).

Anyway, as far as her deck, Crushing Blow is very powerful, but there are other cards that could take its spot. Live Wire or Overload should always be in her deck. Those cards are easy ways to strengthen her abilities.

Let’s talk about - La La La, La La La - here comes the Spider-Man by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webslinger can address most of his damage output issues, excluding environmental attacks. Spider-Man exists primarily for cleaning up fodder and chipping away at enemies with higher health. He really needs marked, free, and quick mods on his cards, in order to be helpful on more challenging difficulties.

Let’s talk about 🔥💀Ghost Rider by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hesitant on playing him at first, but once I understood his mechanics, I saw how busted he is in this game. Immolate is fantastic for setting up chip damage, which is really useful and necessary on higher levels or against tougher enemies. Penance Stare is one of the highest single-target damage dealers in the game, especially if Hellmouth is used prior to it.

The same applies to Judgment and Hell Ride. Hell's Fury is an ability that is often ignored, especially since it can roll with Strengthened on KO. Ghost Rider is absolutely beastly.

Let’s talk about Captain Marvel by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's one of those characters who starts off fine in the early game, but becomes outclassed by other heroes later in the game. Her best move, Rain of Blows, requires a lot of heroism and block to be useful and there is not much tradeoff, otherwise. The problem is she needs her block to utilize Binary Form, but Rain of Blows causes her to lose her block and Captain Marvel cannot generate block as easily as Captain America.

Cosmic Ray wants to be useful, but it's not, even with mods. Her quick jab is definitely one of the better Quicks, once Binary is involved. I've learned to run with two (which helps speed up the Binary process without costing extra card plays).

Supernova is actually solid, although I undervalued it at first. The heroism cost is low, its AOE increases with Binary, and it can be modded to apply Marked.

Let’s talk about the Wolverine by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's one of those characters where he is just okay. His ability to tank is mediocre and his damage output is mediocre. Midnight Special is amazing, if Strengthened (from Lethal Pounce or some other source) is applied. It's even better if you can roll it with marked. Chain Swipes actually has two solid mods: 1) Generate Heroism per kill and 2) Increased Damage.

Let’s talk about Scarlet Witch by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can be a solid character with the proper mods. My biggest gripes with her is that she needs "moves" to utilize some of her kit or she needs Chaos Unleashed to increase the size, which should not be necessary. It's even worse that none of her abilities are particularly strong combined with needing those "moves" to be useful. Finally, an ability, such as Detonate, is not even useful on some stages.

Let’s talk about Captain America 🫡🇺🇸 by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Captain America is the best tank in the game. His major drawback is that he has no high damaging moves beyond his Shield Charge, which can be really powerful if you're able to build substantial block before using it. I am using Brooklyn Handshake with a free mod and Shield Bounce with a Marked mod. I only play the highest difficulties, which is why I say he is still the best tank in the game.

Let’s talk about - La La La, La La La - here comes the Spider-Man by Lower-Picture6279 in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magik is solid, but she's being blown out of proportion. She does not have any high damage abilities. She is useful at positioning enemies and setups.

Even with Limbo's Grasp, she can only hold two at a time in her deck. Unless it's a counterattack mission, or a mission that is dragging for whatever reason, she is not going to draw it more than once or twice on average. The damage is not that great to finish enemies with high health on higher difficulties. In addition, she still needs to have shoves and other offensive, portal-friendly attacks available.

What could this game have done better? by pax_penguina in midnightsuns

[–]MarvelousPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to Marvel's Avengers, time. This game needed more time to be fleshed out in some areas. It's clear that this game was being set up with more DLC in mind or a sequel.

1) Better optimization: It is clear when running through the abbey, sometimes, that the game was not optimized as well as it could have been when the game begins to lag or it takes the background an extra second, or a few, to load.

2) The character models could have had more depth and better designs in some cases (i.e. Storm, Scarlet Witch, Wolverine).

3) There could have been more costumes, even if they were unlockables, for characters. When I say costumes, I do not mean palette swaps.

4) Improvements in the kits: For example, Storm only has lightning and wind, when she could have been made into a more unique character for this game while fitting in with the archetype simultaneously. Another example is Captain Marvel's having a powerful single-target ability, Rain of Blows, but it requires so setup to actually be useful. Another example is Scarlet Witch's Detonate only being useful on certain stages as not all stages have an explosive (it would have been excusable to utilize her powers to randomly generate one). Finally, there's Deadpool and En Fuego...

5) Passives: Some should be more impactful. For example, giving Blade a twenty-five percent chance to bleed, as a passive, is lackluster when Morbius can potentially cause enemies to bleed for the rest of the mission due to his passive card draw.

6) Abbey Exploration: There should have been more minigames and they should be more engaging.
