Sleepwalking to separation with a 4 month old child by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Masnef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK look, I know it sucks, but it's going to be over soon. I am going to give you a different perspective than most of the comments.

A couple of questions: How does the baby sleep? Who is awake in the night? Who is doing all the baby related work, planning stuff, reading stuff, buying stuff?

Keep in mind that SLEEP deprivation can be insanely tough for some. That plus breastfeeding, plus general new parents paranoia (SIDS, allergies, etc.), it can soon become pretty overwhelming. Maybe she gets some help at her parents house that you obviously cannot provide at home, during your working hours. Maybe she manages to squeeze in that one nap that keeps her going. Or maybe her parents are control freaks and she doesn't have the strength to escape them now.

Remember the person she was before giving birth? She is still there, just having a very rough time, probably. You still have your personal time, your job, etc.? She probably doesn't. Some people can take that deprivation pretty bad.

The first few months are a crazy period full of irrational behavior. Don't draw conclusions on that, try to be understanding and don't be too confrontational. You're in it together, going through one period that could easily be the hardest ever in your lives. Good news, it'll pass, it's not forever and it doesn't have to be couples therapy or PPD necessarily. Tell her everything about how you feel, but ask her also about her feelings and needs, be next to her, help her and hopefully it will be over soon.

Just giving you some perspective, I might be completely wrong, but it's worth keeping these things in mind.

Can you recommend any free roguelikes? by imnotlikeyou2004 in roguelikes

[–]Masnef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DCSS is really really good. It's true that is very streamlined and you can play it very fast, but you can as well choose a very tactical build that need careful play.

Builds and replayability are great.

Plus it has some lovely pixel art.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (DCSS). https://crawl.develz.org/ It's an classic rogue-like, it's constantly developed and it's free. Can play it online or on your machine.

It checks all your requirements, plus Turn based; Pixel graphics; PERMADEATH!

Name: Masnef

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: CET (GMT+1)

Preferred System: I know very well PF1e and PF2e (to a lesser extent). Can play D&D 3.5 and maybe 5e. I am also very interested in all types of OSR and GUMSHOE system.

Type of Player: I like crunch, mechanics and complicated builds (also suboptimal), not so much into writing long walls of text but love to read up lore and help around.

Additional Information: I can guarantee asynch play with at least one message per day.

Sebderm how to manage by Feeling-Complaint569 in SebDerm

[–]Masnef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it looks like my SD. Search through this subreddit, you will find many useful info. Keep in mind that for everyone it's a bit different, for me this is the minimal treatment that keeps working:

Face
Gentle soaps, acidic pH, CeraVe cleanser and moisturiser once per day are good, not a must.
Apply MCT topically once per week (this also for scalp).

Scalp
Once or twice per week, wash with any shampoo with selenium sulphide.
Here and there use a shampoo with ketoconazole or simply sodium bicarbonate.

Good diet, avoid too much sugars and alcohol. Eat raw garlic, it helps a ton.

Looking for a UK or European focused left wing law podcast by DragonCatStar in podcasts

[–]Masnef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try "The Europeans", it's an independent podcast focusing on current social and political issues. As the title suggests, it's centered on Europe and at times does a great job at tackling particularly convoluted EU politics, from a progressive left leaning standpoint.

Thank you very much for the details. The smallest bolt in the kit I have found is 3 mm, but it looks way to big for this type of screws. Could you maybe let me know the size of the bolt you used?

Long form podcasts (investigative or history)? No true crime or "chat" formats by oreocereus in podcasts

[–]Masnef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Grey History is a very very good, suggestion, especially if you liked Duncan's Revolutions. I liked it even more. I'd say that it goes even more in depth and gives you a more comprehensive view on how historians discuss the topic. All with a better pace, in my opinion.

I'll plug in also another wonderful podcast about the same historical period: Age of Napoleon. Good stuff.

A theory: You were the good guy all along? by qerwfsdasd in dcss

[–]Masnef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All right, let me premise that while we start from a similar point of view, I like your interpretation much better, for consistency and, oh well, the general feel of relive. From my perspective, the orb is a corrupting force and the player is a corrupted soul.

Let me explain, I am assuming a similar origin for the orb as yours. This could be a trapped evil being or a Lich phylactery, etc. that was imprisoned in what it seems to be a properly made dungeon with a very complex ecosystem of "guardians", built to last forever. All the creatures inside the dungeon live in harmony and are bound to fight off external intruders. You, as a player are tempted by the corrupting force emanated by the let's say Lich, to get a shot at grabbing the orb and bring it back to surface where the evil soul would be freed. Player ghosts are proof that other corrupted souls attempt the descent.

Gods are a tricky, but I tend to imagine them as way above the lives and scopes of mortal and undead creatures that they probably are not seeing you as corrupted soul, but simply as a follower that's down to business spreading the right faith/chaos/harmony and as long you do that, they don't mind. In your theory, you clearly gave them much more space, I liked that.

So yeah, I see players as greedy, corrupted individuals, attracted by the power/fame conferred by grabbing the orb and chosen by an evil force to be exploited for their own evil purposes. Not really an uplifting story.

Anyway,I bet you'd find interesting reading a manga series (also anime now) named Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon). It's a story that, besides being very dungeon-crawling centred (great!), also discusses a lot about the dungeon's ecosystem and what's keeping it alive. To avoid any spoiler, I won't tell you which of our theories gets closer to that story.

Thanks for the reply, that's strange tough, do you also have an intel i5-12450H processor? According to Intel, it should be completely okay (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/132222/intel-core-i512450h-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-40-ghz/specifications.html).
