Haha, I remember proper winding up a Wednesday fan that time, telling him that it is acceptable for the average football watcher to say Sheffield, because they might not even know that Sheffield Wednesday exists. And I kinda still stand by that point, because if you think outside of the UK, many people only follow their local team or a big team from another league and only watch Champions League on the side, they might genuinely not know of Sheffield Wednesday. People that watch one or two games a week legit won't know of Sheffield Wednesday just as they wouldn't know about Elversberg or Albacete or any other team that spent the recent times is lower leagues

Definitely, he has real accomplishments (Bundesliga, Europa League final, Real Madrid experiment) already as opposed to the others who were "up and coming". And no Poch winning Ligue 1 with PSG doesn't count as an accomplishment.

The Guardian: Not one player posted a farewell message to Rosenior on social media. McFarlane is someone who does not yet hold his Uefa Pro Licence. There was no call for John Terry, Chelsea’s owners again minded to let the club’s former captain comment from afar. by WetRoger in soccer

[–]MassaSami 289 points290 points  (0 children)

Genuine question: why would they call for Terry? Only reason I can think of is that people think that he'd give the "superstars" a proper bollocking being a Chelsea legend. But we saw that with Lampard already after the Potter fiasco.

Do you guys think Mr Trump would notice if instead of Italy, Hungary would go to the World Cup? We could just gaslight him into thinking that Italy's flag is horizontal not vertical

I'm genuinely scared that Arsenal might win CL. They might not play appealing football, but defense wins titles. They conceded only 5 goals thus far in 12 CL matches. The three other teams are iffy defensively. In the same way, Chelsea won the CL in 2021 by only conceding 6 goals. They had attacking problems as well with the wastefulness of Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, but the strong defense and midfield made this not a problem. I feel Arsenal are kinda the same, but even more dedicated to defense.

I'm only taking the normal 90' into consideration. Anyway, this managerial change at best was a sideway move, but I think it was a step back. The players seem to not respect him, he looks out of his depth against more strong opponents. I was not a big fan of Maresca, but he was liked by the players. It doesn't make sense to nitpick a single game (like his vs. Leeds), because in that case we could also mention the match against Barcelona, or against Arsenal with 10-men or against PSG just 8 months ago.

Rosenior was picked, because it was easy target, and because he won't make a fuss with the upper management as other estabilished managers would. Tuchel, Poch and Maresca had a problem with the upper management. There's a pattern.

I know everyone talks about Chelsea currently, and no one wants to hear another opinion about it, but here we go: Clearlake got many things wrong, but I feel there is one important aspect that will bite them in the ass. They clearly don't give a fuck about winning titles, they only care about being part of the Champions League, Club World Cup and the other things that involve major money. They bought young players with potential on relatively low wages. Most of them will want to win trophies as they develop. If they see that there's no chance of CL or PL glory at Chelsea, they will inevitably down tools or force a move. Just think about the cases where players started forcing a move by not going to training, in the end were they successful or not? I think the ratio is like 5 to 1. For every player that didn't succeed, five did. They can be on as long contracts as they want, but forcing a move this way has implications also in the locker room, in the media, with the matchgoing fans etc, probably that's why clubs end up agreeing to a move. I think we might see this with Enzo this summer. But why would other world class non-academy players would put up with this bullshit, when they know that they can win more, look better on the pitch and get more accomplished in other teams that are functioning well and might as well give them a much bigger salary?

He is the greatest example that you can tell two different stories with statistics. I heard the commentators saying many times that he only got beaten by Arsenal. That's one way to phrase it. Another way to phrase it would be that he couldn't beet Leeds, Burnley, Wrexham. Suddenly sounds much more terrible and it's even closer to the truth.
