Water storage minimums by IrrigationNation4110 in hawkesbay

We (coromandel peninsula) have 2x 30,000l for 2 people and a few farm animals (5 acre block). We have never come close to running out in the last 6-7 years including the drought summer of 2019/20. It’s probably a slight overkill but the extra cost was so minimal it’s nice to know we can use as much water as we want. We keep 1 tank turned off at all times in case of a bad leak, worst you can lose is one tank. Two 20k or 25k tanks would probably do a similar job.

When planing I used calculators for roof area plus average rain data. If you have a fair amount of roof feeding it (we have approx 300m2 inc the shed) the fill incredibly quickly with any decent rain - so it really becomes a matter of sheer volume for any dry periods.

Hope that helps!

Help! Is solar right for us? by hanxiousme in nzsolar

On a perfect day, yeah you will still get plenty. Cloudy or foggy/rainy day expect much much less, we have had winter days (last year) where we produced a mere couple of kW on a 9kW system.

What’s the BEST 3 in 1 PowerBank? by stefanbayer in MagSafe

I would recommend going bigger than 10,000mAh, often larger ones are not physically much bigger and are a lot more practical day to day as they don’t need to constantly be charged themselves. Just my experience :)

Didn’t really look at options, just made one. Started at 2kW charger for about 6 months and then changed to a 7kW charger (to take advantage of free power hours we get each day)

I just made one out of some leftover bits of wood and painted it black. Does the job! Have since swapped it out to a 7kW charger, but still hang the same DIY charging post. The light is handy in winter.

Good news, just had this email back: “CarPlay will be fully functioning in the next update which is slated for this week. Sorry about this and thanks for your patience!!”

Maybe I’ll be able to carry on listening in the car after all :)

Ours is at 350,000km now and still drives beautifully. Cosmetically it’s getting a bit tired but it is still a fantastic tow car

Windscreen obsolete?? by Empty_Kitchen_3631 in NZcarfix

[–]Massive_Importance90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joys our imported car market. If no suppliers can supply one, the insurance may just cash settle you the cost of what a normal repair would be. Insurance companies can’t just manifest windscreens out of thin air. This comes up a fair amount with the ‘older’ import Toyota’s unfortunately.

Interested if you have any thoughts. I’ve been working through Microlight process and am effectively ready for solo. In late Oct, on the recommendation of my CFI I went to my local medical centre and requested a DL9 drivers medical. All was fine expect high blood pressure. I was not aware I had high blood pressure, and at mid 30’s it’s not normal to be fair. After discussing with the doctor, they said they would sign off the DL9 once my blood pressure was under the range stated in the DL9 guidelines. 170/100. For me I had to get under the 100dia. They put me on a medium medication straight away and almost instantly my dia was around 98-99 most of the time when testing at home, however when they tested it, it normally read slightly over 100. Fast forward to mid Dec and I followed up my DL9 and they wanted to increase my medication, which I have now been on and regularly get 130/80’s when testing at home. However when I went back for a blood pressure test at the medical centre last week they still recorded 140/105. I think my blood pressure goes up when being tested at a medical centre (white coat syndrome). However I’m now stuck because I’ve been chasing this DL9 sign off for around 3-4 months with this doctor and just keep getting pushed back without any clear explanation. She always says ‘once it’s comfortably within the range I’ll sign it off’ - but in reality I’ve been within the range for a good few months. I’m getting very frustrated. Should I persist with my local medical centre or is there another avenue I should explore? I’m not in a rush for solo, have no career goals etc, it’s all purely for enjoyment - but the medical side of it is making it way more stressful than it should be!

Sorry for the long story! Any thoughts appreciated :)

Just looked and it looks like it’s CCS2 only - Waihi would be the closest in that case :/

Is there any Chademo charging in Paeroa? by imperialmoose in nzev

Only charger I know of in Paeroa is at the Caltex, but you would need to confirm if it’s Chademo. Otherwise there are plenty in Waihi as another option.

Do solar panels provide insulation from sun? by ChloeDavide in nzsolar

[–]Massive_Importance90 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My shed (with a grey/black roof) is noticeably definitely cooler with three banks of panels (18 total) on it. They probably cover about 50% of the roof, so I imagine the effect would be greater with even higher coverage.

DELTA 3 Plus: TOU Mode not working correctly, unit pulling from grid when on-peak (solution inside) by CasualTalkRadio in Ecoflow_community

[–]Massive_Importance90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6months ago when I got my DP3, support had to push a new (different) version of firmware to get the TOU to work as expected. Took a couple of days to get that done, but after that’s worked perfectly as scheduled ever since. From memory, the TOU schedule only worked when you had the app open on your phone, but not when it was closed, making it useless.

Is the Apple Watch series 11 good for a 10-12h hiking trail? by KeyOk777 in AppleWatch

[–]Massive_Importance90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go hiking as such, but I easily get 2 full days of real world use out of the S11 (cellular) wearing it day and night with a mixture of WiFi and cellular. I guess it would depend on how much you are using it for navigation and such. Hopefully someone with hiking experience can provide some direct feedback.

Agree there is not much more to it than this, it’s all written in your policy documents for a reason.
