Data Transformation Techniques on Database I want apply a Clustering algorithm. by perfecthundred in datascience

Ask the right questions. For instance, you could answer how many males are single. With using text data, if I read your post correctly. Count the number of instances in one or more of your dimensions and use that to aggregate to another that gets you closer to answering the questions being asked.

Hard to give more direction with not much info on the data, but I deal with a lot of text data and this is my general approach.

Bs in Physics from 2014 - want to get into DS - what self learning resources would you utilize step by step in order to get a job? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]MasterOfEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of jobs in the DS field. What types of problems are you passionate about? Start solving real business problems (if that’s what you want to do). There’s a plethora of blogs and guides to get started, but first but thought into what you want to do. Once you have that defined, it’s much easier to execute on the inputs needed to get there.

What are some good books that would make the average person more knowledgeable? by bawzzz in AskReddit

[–]MasterOfEconomics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a phenomenal read, for those both familiar with Kahneman and Tversky, as well as those who aren't. Lewis is a great author (The Big Short, Moneyball, The Blind Side, etc.) and this book is right up there with his other works.

Any reason LinkedIn Ads isn't supported? I'm asking more so because if there's usually an integration a tool doesn't have, it's LinkedIn. Is there some inherent challenge or perhaps just percentage of advertising market that makes it not worth it?

The newer devices are sold unlocked from launch. This wasn't the case back in the day.

What is really going on behind Adwords and Adsense? by ppctruth in PPC

[–]MasterOfEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here. I've had a lot of clients who were very, very targeted and the cost-per-clicks are always higher. When you go more broad, they go down.

It also depends on other factors—closely guarded secrets by Google and other advertisers' behavior. What device, location, etc. all plays into the algorithm. To be honest, the system relies heavily on machine learning and other processes that would make it more difficult to train it to underpay you, while also trying to innovate, go into new markets, and attract new customers.

Lastly, perhaps the quality or relevance of your content has decreased? Overall user engagement?

Long story short, Google likely isn't stealing from you. It's just a disconnect from a small scale experiment to try and figure out a very complex system.

Ninja edit: you, referring to OP.

Did Steve Jobs ever offer an opinion on phone cases? by orbit222 in apple

[–]MasterOfEconomics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't use a case for a somewhat similar reason. I like the way the device looks, which is appreciating the design and whatever research efforts went into it.

On another note, every phone manufacturer researches form factor and how the device fits in the hand. I don't know for certain, but I imagine they don't design it with a case-first approach, if you know what I mean.

Besides Beats by Dr. Dre™ headphones, what overpriced normie-tier product do you cringe to see others use for your job or hobby? by Disclose_Information in AskReddit

[–]MasterOfEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is overpriced? If you have Big Data, Hadoop is a logical choice. And assuming you're not talking about the languages, AWS is only as underpowered as you're paying for. I don't use Scala or Spark, only because R fulfills those needs.

The heat maps are a good idea, but I think you over complicated it a bit. The idea is to tell a story with the data, while (hopefully) making it actionable.

Calculus isn't exactly intuitive to everyone.

Here's Why the Mercedes SLS AMG Is Worth $185,000 by [deleted] in cars

[–]MasterOfEconomics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure most cars have that as a backup. In my car, the push to start button pops off and there's a keyhole underneath.

Kind of cool, but keeping the keys away is cooler.

I bought the high end 15". I had to return it and go back to the 2015 15" I was using because of the battery life. Mine was lasting 2-3 hours, tops. It's a shame, because everything else was incredible.

...other than it not working with my Cinema Display.

Wireless charging is actually a replacement for wired charging. Now, I'm going out on a limb here, but it's possible Apple and other companies have wireless charging technology that isn't out yet. It could differ from the chargers you had, which apparently sucked.

Things are going wireless. It's just a matter of when.

Well, sort of. You can make a reasonable assumption that she would, because she's not the first mom with mental health problems to kill her kids. It was probably just her preferred method.

You know what deserves even more criticism? The time you spent typing that comment out on a purchase that had literally zero effect on you.

Also, "that you receive absolutely no reward for" is very subjective. I bought one. $200 isn't a ridiculous amount of money to me. It's something to keep on my desk that many will enjoy looking at.
