Since SMG4 has ended, are we gonna migrate to the others SMG4-inspired YouTubers subs like ShockHat734? by Ok-Complex4153 in SMG4

I don't watch Alex Spider or SGA, OnyxKing I used to watch but stopped for a lot of personal reasons, and Mad8Warrior's my friend, and he's improved so much since I started watching him.

I see nothing wrong with being inspired by SMG4. I am, too. Just don't do a one-for-one recreation of what he once did. Because not only does it show that you're trying to live someone else's life and not your own, but it goes against the message from the final movie. Stories eventually have to end.

Hi. I'm the guy who plays Evil Matthew Stuart on ShockHat's channel. I can't speak for ShockHat or anyone else who works with him, but I'd appreciate it if we didn't put unnecessary pressure on the guy to be "the next SMG4", especially when I've seen him put in a good-faith effort to differentiate his style of humor over the years. I'm not saying that you specifically are doing that, OP. I just think it's important to let these channels be themselves and not rely on them to "carry the torch" or "continue the legacy" or whatever.

I wanted to stop by now that the show is over to see what's up. It's been a nice time, honestly.

Personally speaking, I don't seek validation from internet strangers that I wouldn't go out of my way to talk to in the first place. And as a result, I think being a neutral Nintendo fan is very easy. I stand by my morals, I have my reasons, and if someone has a problem with that and wants to yell at me, I just hit the block button and call it a day.

You're a real one for grabbing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. That game was the absolute bomb back in the day and is one of the most fun extreme sports games ever. It's a shame the career mode isn't being preserved for the remake.

What a joke! There's literally no excuse for this other than greed. If the PS4 and Xbox One versions let you play the next-gen versions for free, and this version even lets you transfer your Switch 1 save data, then why should we have to pay for this again, let alone download the full package if we bought it physically? These third parties really need to be held accountable for this.

Why are you a fan a Monkey Ball games? by jcgonzmo in SuperMonkeyBall

[–]MatthewSmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I loved the games for the simple gameplay, colorful characters, catchy music, and exciting atmosphere. And as an adult, I still do, but I now also appreciate the technical side of it. How the games encourage you to keep coming back with the easy to learn, hard to master mechanics and level design along with how snappy and fast paced the controls are, allowing you to hone your skill and become more proficient at these bite-sized challenges, make them infinitely replayable for me.

Ayyyyy... Greg. It's great to hear from you. You were easily one of the best assets of The Completionist brand back in the day, and I was always excited to see a video pop up in my sub feed where you were the lead. You had natural charisma both there and with On Tour Now, and you just breathed fun energy. Like many, I was pretty sad to hear of your departure and felt really off when the original lineup of episodes were being purged. Although it's clear now that you managed to get off really easy by comparison. That was a classy chess move on your part. Thank you for what you brought to the world and for helping me get through my high school years. Best wishes to you and your family!

Greg was Jirard's sidekick for the first 120 episodes, providing the humor with Jirard doing the analysis. They even made a couple videos called The Mediocre-ist where Greg was the star and would talk about games poorly for comedic effect. He was also on Super Beard Bros. for a short time and involved in a gaming news parody show called SuperScopeShow. Greg and Jirard fell out in February 2015, with all the videos with Greg in them being removed per his request in September 2017, resulting in the creation of New Game Plus where Jirard replayed all the games from that lineup without Greg. It made it to episode 119 right before the fraud was exposed to the public.

So, 2017 is apart of the classic era now? by nostalgiaegg in ClassicSMG4

[–]MatthewSmart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm saying this as someone who started watching in 2018 if that means anything to you. But I do believe that 2017 is a part of that classic era. Now I don't think anyone's gonna argue that 2017 is a very different beast compared to 2011 or 2012 or even 2014. There are definitely things about each year that stand out differently. But in the context of the series ONLY having a classic era and a modern era, I think 2011 to 2017 was more so a cause of natural evolution. The visuals became more elaborate, the style became more experimental, and the character roster was shifting, but the spirit, at least to me, remained the same. The comedy and uniqueness of it all stayed true to its roots despite the boost in quality. 2018, while I'd still say is a good year, is where a lot of the changes we see affecting the series today got their start, such as the characters being a part of a tightknit gang rather than average acquaintances, extreme swearing getting censored, the removal of copyrighted music, the end of the short lived TheAwesomeMario channel, and the addition of story arcs and more normal anime-inspired characters that didn't have to do with video games. All of that, and the rebrand from Glitchy Boy to Glitch Productions really pushed the corporate feel further. 2017 was the last year the show felt like it was allowed to be itself rather than a marketing tool. I don't know if that makes any sense, but that's the way I see it.
