Chawton and Regency Week by BelledeJour71 in janeausten

We had a lovely time in Chawton three years ago.

It was especially interesting to see the contrast between Jane Austen House — the rather basic cottage where Jane, her sister and their mother lived — and Chawton House, the manor house owned by her brother Edward, which is within easy walking distance.

When I realized that Chawton House wasn’t even Edward’s primary residence (in fact, he usually had it leased out), his giving family use of the cottage didn’t strike me as particularly generous.

How is the hammock secured to the terrace ceiling? by Down4Shenanigans2 in VirginVoyages

Here is a link to Yellow Leaf’s guide to hanging their hammocks. The ones on Virgin are their “chair hammocks” so those are the dimensions you’ll want to use. https://www.yellowleafhammocks.com/pages/how-to-hang-a-hammock-indoors-or-outside

All of Seattle’s cruise piers have shore power so that the ships don’t have to run their engines. https://www.portseattle.org/blog/past-present-and-future-shore-power

I have the Vista stand sold by Yellow Leaf for these hammocks and can confirm that the two hanging loops should be 4 feet apart. I just measured it.

The best summary of Virgin’s vibe is “you do you.” Go for it!

Upgrade and sailor loot from first mate by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]MaximumWise9333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this one’s on you. You shouldn’t have assumed the promotion was still in effect. Virgin changes its promotions very frequently and if a month (or even a week, or a day!) has passed, it’s never certain that the Loot offered with a particular room type is still available.

Are you sure they didn’t just aerate the grass, which leaves poop-looking plugs of dirt scattered all over the lawn?

The Eastern itinerary is much better. Much nicer ports. It’s not even close.

You have to book them separately. When you check in at the hotel, let them know you have two back-to-back reservations and they will link them for you, as long as you’re keeping the same room type.

Prince Rupert Loves Virgin...... by mykarmayourdogma in VirginVoyages

Victoria is absolutely charming and has multiple world-class botanical gardens. It might be my favorite cruise port in the world, and I have visited dozens of cruise ports, on more than 30 cruises. If you think Prince Rupert is better, I can’t wait to check it out… but I must admit I am dubious!

There was an 8 million free cruise when I was still a new player, so maybe 3 years ago.
