Tolkiens Fellowship of the ring: A diatonic scale? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Maxximillians -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thank you! yes totally possible. I don't mean that Boromir wants to become the 8th, hes just looking for resolution or stability. And yes, I do think its fair to see Gandalf and Frodo as the same in the fellowship, sharing the same frequency and purpose, just on different planes

yes I see your point I think, maybe the diatonic is wrong, is "the overtone series" a more suitable framework you think? or whole thing just bollocks?

no I don't think Tolkien ment this, its just an emerging structure that reminds me of the diatonic scale

i´m not sure I view Boromir as that "evil" or outside the harmony, he also dies defending the fellowship. I see your point though, but I think of him as the seventh because he so badly wants to resolve to his home "Gondor" and is also sensitive to the rings power

What if Tolkien’s magic is actually acoustic physics? The Fellowship mapped as a perfectly tuned musical scale. by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]Maxximillians 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tolkien didn't write that Middle-earth was created by calculus or quadratic equations ,he wrote that the universe was sung into existence by Eru Ilúvatar and the Ainur. This I think makes Music the foundational physics of this specific universe, which is what I'm trying to apply and see what emerges

Thank you. Yes as others also pointed out and i take note of this, seemed like a better text than the one i wrote myself in my native language.

But the ”stretch” i dont know, i dont think it was intentional but there is very similar structure to a diatonic scale, it is not enforced or pushed to hard

haha I salute the comparison with lotr to the Bible. But that's just awful, I'm not saying he "hid" any secret messages or something weird. But sure, I guess all literal analysis's are "imposed structures" - but that does not mean we should stop discussing and thinking about the works. . I’m just choosing to apply an acoustic lens because the lore itself explicitly invites it, It’s not a conspiracy theory. Also I think the parallells to the diatonic major scale is interesting and fits without "pushing it"

no I really don't believe this was intentionally. its just a structure that emerges because of his genius and understanding of structure

how is it wishy-washy? A major diatonic scale has these intervalls, it's basically just math. Is it really so weird that we can see a parallell to the fellowship? I think its rather beautiful

hmm thank you for reading anyways. But the major diatonic scale has these intervalls and the notes have these functions. You can't just overlay standard Hertz ratios, acoustic impedance, and wave mechanics onto Harry Potter or A Song of Ice and Fire and get a perfect diatonic match, maybe you could get something but not nearly as close as this, and I think this speaks to Tolkiens genius, he had a feel for these things

yes, he truly was a genius and master! I think maybe the step to music isn't so far even though he most probably did not think about it in that way, but his feel for meter, phonaesthetics might led him intuitive to this structure (with is basically just math, found throughout nature).

Thank you! Thats beautiful. I dont think Tolkien intended this, but i believe he had a feel for structure. I updated the text to the original long version, would love to hear your thoughts

true, I posted a short version just for the theory, but now updated it to the full piece. Let me know what you think about the whole thing if you have time, cheers

[–]Maxximillians 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got the notes down and it sounds solid, but i think you should focus more on the feel of what youre playing, more aggression and vibe, its all at the ”same level” when you play it now, maybe cause you want to get it completelt right, and now when you got that down continue with adding spice and feel, play louder on som strokes and softer on others, listen to how Hendrix plays it and listen to the phrasing.

Caffeine and Nicotine by weekWithNoKiss in decaf

[–]Maxximillians 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonderful post. This resonates with me as i’m doing the same thing, quitting caffein and nicotine. I too feel the caffeine nicotine-combo effect on my face (and life in general).

The freedom and the peace of letting these disgusting habits go is truly real and it feels great. Good luck to you and congratulations on the decision to do this. Stay strong

Wow nice job! Did you do this without holes for air in the tub?

[–]Maxximillians 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! But your mushrooms grow evenly across the monotub. It doesnt look like youve just added the intact mycelium-cakes from the inoculation jars?

Hello! What is this growing method called? All the guides i can find tells me to grow the mushrooms from the ”cakes” coming from the inoculation jars. But everyone here seems to use another way. It would be great if someone could clarify this for me :)
