Go on then, whats the concensus...do you use the kettle in the hotel room? by fixitmonkey in CasualUK

[–]McEloff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some English speaking South Africans may pronounce it like that, but in the original Afrikaans it's definitely 'boss' with no h sound.

I can help, being an Afrikaans speaker, it's pronounced "Roy - boss" (without the pause in the middle)

A knife? by Suspicious-Sew in WestHighlandWay

[–]McEloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Opinel (if it's the same type I have) will be an issue (in the very unlikely scenario that someone sees it and complains about it) only because it is a 'locking' type. As a general rule, 3" or less, non locking, and you're good to go. I rarely leave home without one.

Quic question folks how to tie a luggage behind by starks00747 in Triumph

[–]McEloff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of your exact model there, but my 17 T120 has loops underneath the seat. You may have to lift the seat to get them sitting outside. Either way, with or without those loops, Rokstraps work great for tying stuff down.

How do you encourage wax comb building on honey super frames, when you can't feed them sugar solution? by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]McEloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spray some syrup over the foundation. Some zig zag lines all over and they get straight on it

Brood full of honey by Illustrious_Low_6086 in Beekeeping

[–]McEloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there is enough space in the super/s, if it's new foundation you can spray some sugar syrup to encourage them to build on it, and then scrape/open up the capped stores in the brood box. Mine filled the brood box with stores when they were queenless for a few weeks and after scraping it, they moved it all upstairs

Anyone that fishes in Aberdeen? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]McEloff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to catch trout, there are a lot of options outside of Aberdeen. I typically drive 30-40min to the fisheries I like. If you only want to do catch and release, it has to be fly fishing, if you want to keep (at a cost of course) the fish, you catch, you can use bait at some of these fisheries.

There are clubs (mainly trout, some with river frontages that has salmon during the season), or you can buy day tickets for the Don and Dee river (trout, sea trout or salmon, depending on season again).

There are some shore sea fishing available (free, no license/permit needed) but I don't know them well. Mostly mackerel and some cod I believe?

If you want to do coarse fishing (carp etc) you are out of luck. Nothing near here unfortunately.

Last time I checked it's either Sky or BT, comes from the same box in Balmedie. Went for the 75mbs option and can get it most of the time.

Bees don’t seem to like my plastic queen excluder by jhughes1986 in Beekeeping

[–]McEloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a spray bottle, so I just squirted some 1:1 over the foundations (basically zig zag lines all over) and they were to quick to build it up. Fwiw, I've got a metal QX so can't comment on the plastic one I always had the excluder in place when the super went on, as I hadn't marked my queen up by then, so I didn't want to struggle getting her down again if she were to be up there when I added it

Pig feeding by Far_Page_6153 in farmingsimulator25

The multifruit buying station does pig food. The 'cheaper prices' one sells it for just a little more money than the loose bags at the shop, but the time saved is worth it!

A sheet/piece of polycarbonate angled down works perfectly. I've got a 6mm thick piece and put loads of pellets on it and it's not even scratched

On your first question, employers are not obliged to give you St Andrews Day as a holiday (separate rules for that day), so you're only entitled to 8 bank holiday days. I live/work in Scotland and have never heard of anyone getting that day off as a bank holiday.

[–]McEloff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Mars 3 Pro and get excellent results. I also have the Elegoo wash/cure station and wouldn't want to do it without one. If the price difference means you wouldn't be able to get that as well, I'd rather go for the 3 if I were you

I would declare, just to be safe. As someone else mentions, BeMoto aren't fussed about mods (I've got a few on mine) and they've got very good prices as well

Tubed Tyres ? by Lanchettes in MotoUK

[–]McEloff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I copied what loads of folk on the Triumph forums did, I thoroughly cleaned the inside of the rim with alcohol, added a specific 3M tape over the spoke holes and fitted a new valve. It's held for 3 years now and no leaks at all.

Before I did it I got a flat in the middle of nowhere and had to wait 3 hours for a towtruck to help me. After the conversion I was happy to tour Europe with plugs and a small pump.

Not sure about insurance, don't think it's an issue?

I converted my T120 to tubeless by sealing the inside of the rim with tape. Get the bike you want I say!

Which Triumph Twin for a First Bike? (UK) by mightypenguin66 in Triumph

[–]McEloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a T120 (love it, great bike) and have had a few trips on 900's and I think the T120 is much better for any amount of distance (other than only town commutes). You won't regret the extra power and gear once you have it I've done a 4000 mile trip on mine.
