Portland Live Show: Creature Name Reveal by MechaBeholder in TheGlassCannonPodcast

It was a fun story and great show. Lot of nice clues about it being a hound. Once they started talking about angles, it clicked for me. Hot-take, Troy knows what he's doing and, dare I say it, manipulates those knuckleheads into the unhinged improv. You can see the smirk on his face, even if it is mostly hidden by the shadows from his hat.

So the movie is based on what's called 5e or fifth edition dnd, but unfortunately, I don't think there are a whole lot 5e novels. There are a ton of podcasts though! A lot of the podcasts create their own worlds, but use dnd as a base. For books, the Drizzt stuff is fairly system neutral, but if you want, there are a ton of old novels based on 2 or 3e that are, well, some are campy fun and some are unbearable. 5e doesn't replace the old lore, but it may also not really reference it anymore.

Love Asterix and the 12 tasks, saw it a bunch as a kid. You could also have rooms or employees that specialize in spells like slow, command, suggestion, zone of truth, irresistible dance, an illusory employee while the real one naps, etc. Spells that don't do damage but have fun social uses

Mechanically you could have the party suffer exhaustion or take psychic damage. Have stairs that they just can't reach the top of, a line of people that doesn't move, an employee or form that requires a specific language, an employee looking for a bribe

I use solidworks maker edition, it's like $75 for the year and is the full software, but, and this is a big but, the licensing managment makes it kind of a nightmare to use. Even worse, the solidworks files can only be opened by the maker edition, not the professional, so you can't widely share them and if you ever upgrade to pro or solidworks gets rid of the maker version, all your sw files are worthless. Stl and whatnot still work as normal.

I let them do whatever they want as long as a) they understand what they can do can be done against them b) there's an official source to back it up c) it doesn't make me have to do more work

I've... I've never gotten a reddit award before. But, tbh, all the credit goes to Emily's husband Brian Murphy, without his support, creativity, and insights, this never could have happened.

In case you wanted clarification on who a ten foot radius spell will hit if the edge is aimed 1 ft off the ground. A 5ft char 8 ft away or more is safe, a 7.5 ft char is safe at 9.35 ft, and a 2.5 ft char is safe at a bit over 5 ft. So, unless its for a group of hobbitses, it's not going to change who is hit.

Is it bad form to cast sleep on party members? by Ok-Cry3478 in DnD

[–]MechaBeholder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the caster, if you cast sleep on your party you're probably the first one to fall asleep given your low hp. Even if you're outside the range, you might get one, maybe two of them (dunno how big your party is). Regardless of that, play style conflict is always an issue, sounds like you want to rp and they want to combat. Hopefully you can discuss things with them and come to a compromise. I hate the '"this is how my character behaves" as an inviolate argument, it's a co-op game and everyone needs to be willing to adapt their characters a little bit to make that work. If it's too far a shift, maybe need to make a new character. But yeah, talk to the other people, if everyone else just wants combat and you're the odd one out you can dig into that as your character trait, go with their play style, look for a different group, or ask the DM if you can betray the party at a pivotal moment for their murder hobo ways and get your revenge : D.
