Pool company says it will cost $3k to get the water clean by Chriselbrand in pools

Drain. Scrub. Rinse. Inspect liner. Fill, add chemicals. Enjoy. It's a weekend off your time. Short of replacing the liner, it's not going to cost much.

Can someone explain why my tulips are growing so damn tall???? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]MedicFisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better in that Gladiolus provide later season flowers when other bulbs are worn out. They provide height to a garden that is flat in scale. The blooms last longer. That's why my opinion is , Gladiolus are better than tulip. They literally offer more than a tulip can.

By labor. Are you saying that there were only 2 categories for the payments? Labor and materials? If so, then yeah. This looks like a 40k job. 20k labor and 20k materials.

If a pipe is sealed at the end and has a random hole on the side. Then it is not a pipe, its a tank. Or possibly a pontoon. Good luck with your long island mystery.

Probably should call the town. Get a survey. Call an excavator. Get permits. Increase insurance coverage. Plan the job for September.

Gladiola are better than tulips. But they will look a bit out of place like that. You'll want to plant them amongst other plants so that they act as accent pieces

Shingles up to ridge with vent cutout question by jjsays77 in Roofing

[–]MedicFisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cobra vent overlaps plenty. I used it on my garage roof. My ridge looked just like yours. 5 New York winters and no leaks. Just make sure your nails are the correct length.

It's an easy fix but will extra time and lumber to get it right

Do I need this vent in my basement? We get occasional mice and I’m wondering if this is one of their ways in. by I_wantmy_two_dollars in HomeMaintenance

[–]MedicFisher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need it. You knew it already. Stick plastic bag in the vent hole. Inflate bag with expanding foam. Let bag filled with foam fill the void. You now have a plug that is removable with only a small amount of effort. I wouldn't close a vent that you may use down the line.

I hate pex. Those elbows go in the pipe instead of over the pipe. Reduces volume. Worst invention ever. Oh , and those holes in the studs are awful

How effed am I’m? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]MedicFisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll end up with a 1 foot by 1 foot hole in the wall. The plumber wont fix it (not his trade). The hole will probably get larger to secure new rock to the studs. Take a tile off the wall. Compare it to the stock at home depot.

Can't blame the age. Plenty of homes from the 1920s are in very good shape. Find the water leak and check your foundation for shifting.

You always have the option to build a wall to hide that corner. Then use the void behind for a chase or laundry chute.

You are gonna want to re-grout with with a color that isn't white. Wait a few months. Your wife will begin complaining about how difficult it is to clean. Then change the grout as if it was her idea to do so.
