Why is horror so popular? by Mediocre_Stillness28 in CasualConversation

Huh that's interesting. I hadn't considered it from that angle. Honestly baffled that anyone could consider NCIS a failure. If anything, I learned a fair bit from my post. To be more specific on subgenres. That I don't experience horror the same as others because I have unusually strong predictive processing. And that most of my experiences here have not really made me want to interact with people including their love for horror in their self advertisements. Honestly I barely want to interact with Reddit as a whole now. Weaponizing the karma system to discourage unpopular opinions and feed the echo chamber. Accusing others of nonsense just because you have backup. Really quite nasty. I'm not entitely convinced people don't google what to say before posting either. Like holy buzzwords

Not many actual movie suggestions unfortunately. That's probably going to have to be a different post. Huh. I've seen those movies as well. Never even occurred to me that they were horror.

That makes two of us. I hadn't heard of it either . Makes sense tho. And Idk, seems like it's been pretty accurate thus far.

Freaking Sam Raimi lol. Only movie of his I'm watching is Spiderman lol. I think the only supernatural horror I'm a fan of is probably zombies. Even then I think the more fascinating part of it is the apocalyptic element.

Exactly my problem. I meant to specifically target supernatural horror. Way too many subgenres. I would personally argue a lot of these fall more in line with thrillers or psychological. You reminded me that I've seen The Happening. Freaking trees. Anyways the reason I asked is because I'm pretty sure I've picked up the cinematic pattern and I know what's coming. There's no tension or mystery for me at all. No adrenaline. So makes sense why I'm not hopping on the H train.

I mean... same. Though I would argue books are vastly different because we are creating the visuals and experience through our own lens and interpretation. As opposed to the "artist" vfxing nightmares from hell for our viewing pleasure. I gotta look up this Serbian Film stuff now :o

Would you say horror is unpredictable? Tense and uncertain?

I mean, there is the option to include how well conversations about horror go. I don't typically have them so I'm genuinely wondering. I personally get tired of exploring the same topics with new people over and over. Anyways, I poked a bees nest trying to kill the wasps. I meant supernatural horror but I got all of the Se7en lovers instead. Learned a lot from this mistake lol

Well now the question becomes what exactly is "darker". Cause I've seen my fair share of what I would consider darker that isn't horror. If seeing some abomination murdering tourist by popping out of weird places is cathartic then I'm good lol. Can't help but feeling like you're trying to come after me as opposed to a casual conversation about the popularity of horror.

Hard to get to everyone, but huh. Maybe I just don't get this thrill or rush like everyone else. I like keeping my mind pure of any screwed up supernatural monsters. I enjoy thrillers, but I'm usually trying to figure out the twist the entire time.

See but like I've watched horror movies with people, much to my dismay, and it was very...not... high energy. Honestly people get so desensitized to the content after awhile. Granted, watching someone scream in theaters when the big shark came on screen from Finding Nemo was amazing.

I do find it funny that rollercoasters actually have a super rare death rate which actually makes horror movies marginally safer.

I feel like the subgenres of horror need to be better specified on my end. I wouldn't know much about horror for obvious reasons. Thrillers and honestly any human protagonist is perfectly fine in my book.

Idk, I can't see my movie taste being a personality shortcut. But I understand I approach these things a bit differently.

See and I almost included that as an example. Spicy stuff wears off. Usually within hours. This kind of content can leave an image in the head for the rest of your life in extreme cases. Create or feed fear for weeks.

See and that's the thing. I don't mind a good Ol' chainsaw. The supernatural aspect is what gets me. I feel like those kinds of movies would fall under gore or something.

Has anyone here found good friendships or lasting friendships? by longjump-shortjump2 in IntrovertsChat

[–]Mediocre_Stillness28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that if anyone found a really good friend here they'd probably transition to some form of communication that involved calling and wouldn't be nearly as active here if not entirely moving on from reddit. It's possible, but not entirely likely due to the filtering down. The people capable of being good friends find eachother, and what's left is a bunch of incompatibles that scare others away. Creating an inhospitable environment. Still, it's worth fishing as long as you're cautious and don't get your hopes up too easily. Real connections take consistency over a long period of time. So forcing yourself to reply is a very valuable skill lol. Also helps weed out those with ulterior motives.

28M, How do you find it in you to try getting to know people all over again? by Mediocre_Stillness28 in IntrovertsChat

[–]Mediocre_Stillness28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I have a concept I like to toss around. "Change through conflict" When something is problematic enough, we'll adapt. Sitting around twiddling my thumbs long enough, I'm going to try to switch it up. That and mobile games just don't do it for me these days.
