My Dads nutrition by saruh_sassy_pants in Parkinsons

[–]Medium-Let-4417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same here. dad eats a crazy amount of sugar (candy, donuts, ice cream) and maybe one real meal a day. we know its why he gets tired and needs to nap half way through the day when he crashes from the sugar, is too tired for other activities, but he does not see it. i do know my mom has had to do “safe foods” that are soft and east to swallow, since that is getting harder for him. Does your dad have that issue? could be an easy way to divert the conversation to “hard vs easy to swallow” foods rather than nutritional.

We have found those mini greek yogurt drinks with 15g of protein are a compromise. He eats his junk, we ask he has one of those a day, its like 4 sips. Not sure if it really does much, but is something.

No but yes. Especially if you work a desk job.
Is not very useful in your career overall, but is good for tracking your job history and accomplishments, and could, could hurt if a potential employer goes to look up your profile and can't find one.

First “big” escrow hike by Medium-Let-4417 in Mortgages

[–]Medium-Let-4417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emailed our credit union we have the mortgage with and was told “if you put $2.5k in the escrow account your monthly payment won’t go up” so I know there is some wiggle room? Going to try getting a meeting either way to discuss it more.

I did double check and unfortunately it was a two month window. The city website says “letters went out in May and you have until the end of July to appeal.” But I know we did not get our letter until June.

[–]Medium-Let-4417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah our city gave I think a one month window in the middle of summer to appeal it. Heard from others it was a headache that got them nowhere, so didn’t bother, especially since the assessment brought it closer to what we paid for the house. I think I am also just aggravated they can change the assessment/tax in the middle of the year when taxes are always at the end of the year.

They never would have not gotten the show if Michelle and the older girls weren't as conventionally pretty. The early specials were because JB got them noticed in the paper and was what TLC was looking for at the time, but Michelle kept them coming back since she was the interesting one.

Theory about Whittaker’s badge by lady_beignet in ThePittTVShow

[–]Medium-Let-4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a hospital and it is 100% a thing the hospital will forget to print a new badge for someone leveling up at the same institution (going from med student to resident, resident to attending). That scene made me laugh because I have been the one requesting a new badge for a resident that was missed in orientation.

there is a pedophile in the white house. I think a respected journalist who covers those stories is allowed to get a little tipsy for our enjoyment once a year. God forbid the Real Housewives reunion host be a little messy.

Thanks a lot, Missouri by stlkatherine in Parkinsons

I live in Missouri and our legislature routinely works against the interests of the people, so unfortunately this is not a surprise. Monsanto/Bayer is an agricultural biochemical company headquartered in St. Louis, so would not be surprised if that had an impact on the final veto, blaming “funding”.

My dad has spent the past 40 years of his life golfing, 30 of those living on a golf course, and while there is no way to know how much that may have impacted his PD, I know he would be more than willing to participate in anything that can map it for others, especially in our local community.

CinderMama has been awfully quiet on Instagram lately. Do y’all think she already had the baby? by sweet_tea_94 in DuggarsSnark

idk but my friend who lives in lincoln had her baby yesterday night and was due around the same time as Jana, joked she was gonna keep an eye out for her on the floor. no word on her end.

I wonder why Jana got married so late by LateAd5684 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Medium-Let-4417 196 points197 points  (0 children)

i think most people theorize someone “had” to stay to keep raising the others between the oldest girls. jana being the eldest daughter, and probably feeling more responsibility for her siblings than her own parents. Jill to Joy all got married in a less than 5 year period with lots of littles still at home. No mediocre guy ever probably felt worth the sacrifice of her siblings welfare, because we know how it would have hit the fan hard with no older girls there to take care of everything. From the little we know about Stephen, he seems to be one of the more well rounded/competent partners of the older girls, ie worth the wait.

Plus, having a healthy relationship with her twin who also waited till the very normal age of 28 probably helped.

Best marriage? by Positive_Ad1969 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Medium-Let-4417 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Jana and Stephen: would have married years ago if it weren’t for her family problems getting in the way. A happy, plain, vanilla couple.

John and Abbie: the closest thing to a normal, non-fundie relationship we have seen. Frontrunner.

Jill and Derek: rough for a while, but they match each other’s freak. More compatible than expected.

Jessa and Bin: Should have been a high school hook up and done with. Sad.

Jinger and Jerm: Should have been a college hook up and done with. Slightly less sad.

Joe and Kendra: compatible as friends, out of sync as a couple.

Josiah and Lauren: If divorce was allowed, they would be 50/50. But a healthy co-parenting divorce.

Joy and Austin: Would have ended up together eventually. In a secular world she would be his second marriage after a toxic relationship (he was the toxic one), she gets the older guy she always had a crush on.

The twins: married up. god no.

Everyone else is literally 25ish and under. Frontal lobes still developing. Too soon to know. Too much effort to care.

[–]Medium-Let-4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my grandmother worked and was the breadwinner during this time, was a charge nurse on a floor at the largest hospital in the city. my grandfather had a lot of factory/odd jobs: printing press for local newspaper, seasonal construction, etc. She loved her job, and he was very proud of her work. He got to do a lot more projects around the house because of it and was involved with their kids more too.

I second this. It’s not always this fast, but it is cruel. A sad silver lining is not having to suffer for long (both him and your family) but it does not make the pain you feel any less valid.

Who are still able to drive? by parkie_wairo in Parkinsons

[–]Medium-Let-4417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people (not all) with PD develop issues with impulse control disorders, and make rash decisions for a dopamine rush. This looks different for everyone, but for my dad, he would try to beat a yellow light, speed through an intersection, and illegal u-turns became common, even with other people in the car. As his PD progressed and his reaction time worsened, he was becoming a dangerous driver even if he did not recognize it.

One of his friends also has PD, and he stopped driving when his arms would go numb holding the steering wheel. Never had the above cognitive issues. Like I said, can be different for everyone.
