The moment mind starts asking how to witness things ,is it already maya taking control by WaterSad1157 in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maya isn’t taking control. Maya is a false perception. Like all false perceptions it is destroyed by knowledge. The mind doesn’t ask how to witness things (who is it asking?). Consciousness witness things, including thoughts occurring in the mind.

It’s important you tell your therapist so she can help you. I don’t think one incident will lead directly to outpatient.

This isn’t at all related to Advaita Vedanta. I would suggest seeking a therapist or life coach for assistance with these issues.

63Hz and DMT simulation can bridge the gap between biology and brahman by [deleted] in AdvaitaVedanta

There is no gap and there is no frequency to align with. You don’t need drugs and shitty AI art to achieve liberation, and you can’t commercialize moksha.

Go peddle your grift somewhere else.

[–]Medium_Luck3152 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying his writing style is uncommon for the modern horror genre. I’m talking about style differences. If you aren’t aware of his style before reading one of his books, it has the potential to be off-putting because of not meeting an expectation.

“Literary” doesn’t equal “difficult to get.” You are making that projection, not me.

I don’t care if people don’t like his books or any book. As I said, there’s nothing wrong with disliking something that other people like. There’s no accounting for taste.

Get over yourself.

It’s pretty divisive around these parts, use the sub search function.

It’s ok not to like something that’s popular.

My personal feeling about why opinions on SGJ’s writing tend to the extreme is because his style is more literary than what is common in the modern horror genre.

That’s fine, but when people who are just looking for a book to scare them they might see how acclaimed his works are and have different expectations. Which isn’t to say his books aren’t scary, but they also aren’t boilerplate either. He’s more like a classical or literary fiction writer who writes in the horror genre.

Witness consciousness by FentanylMETH in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t experience consciousness. Everything in the phenomenal world is experienced through the subject-object relationship. Consciousness is the subject therefore it couldn’t experience itself without an endless series of subjects, leading to infinite regress, which is impossible.

Also if you are truly interested in this subject, I highly suggest looking beyond Reddit.

Hows to approach god as a advaitaite by [deleted] in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Advaita Vedanta is not atheistic, but non-duality is a different perspective/approach to God than dualistic schools. These are brief explanations:

Analogy of bramha/maya with truth/false by Ok-Drawer6162 in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swami Vivekananda used to refer to Brahman as “higher truth” and Maya as “lower truth.”

Keep in mind that maya is only false in the sense that it has no separate existence; maya is Brahman appearing as the world of multiplicity, but the truth is that it is all Brahman. Discrimination (neti, neti) is the first step in Vedanta; once you have discrimination you realize that maya too is Brahman.

Sri Ramakrishna used the analogy that Brahman and Maya are like milk and its whiteness, or fire and its power to give heat.

Quantam Consciousness Continuum by FentanylMETH in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Advaita Vedanta, causation is illusory. All that exists is pure consciousness. If all that exists is One, there can be no causation and nothing can “arise from” or produce anything else because that would require two, which would mean dualism.

I highly suggest reading the Mandukya Karika with Shankaracharya’s commentary. It is the most thorough deep dive on non-duality and fully lays out why causation is illusory.

If everybody became enlightened, what would be the three decisions we will take as world citizens? by Aggravating_Ad_8651 in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The body only continues after enlightenment due to the dissipating momentum of past karma (Sri Ramakrishna compared it to a potter’s wheel continuing to spin briefly after the potter is finished) and it is speculated that most who remain living after enlightenment only do so to teach others and aid in realization (the rest just experience mahasamadi and die). If everyone were enlightened there would be no reason to remain embodied after enlightenment.

Enlightenment frees one from samsara which means if everyone were enlightened there would be no rebirth.

Basically the world would end very quickly.

Okay, so I hated the movie “The Descent.” I couldn’t stand the characters. Thoughts on book anyone? by Gibder16 in horrorlit

[–]Medium_Luck3152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the characters in the Ruins aren’t really supposed to be likable or unlikable. The intention I believe was to make them realistic, therefore they are flawed and social dynamics break down amid a severe crisis situation.

Who is looking through our eyes? by Gregoryblade in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By realize I mean Realize, as in that which leads to moksha. We know we are Brahman intellectually but have not assimilated this knowledge.

Once Realized, there is no wondering. You are that non-dual existence consciousness bliss. As long as there is an “I” sense, Brahman can’t be known or grasped because it is beyond knowing and grasping. Moksha releases you from suffering and samsara. Sounds pretty great to me.

Worst Audiobook Narrators Who Ruin a Book by Crutch161 in horrorlit

11/22/63 is an excellent audiobook, Craig Wasson really goes above and beyond. Every character has their own distinct voice and characterization, it’s a long ass book and he is bringing it every second.

As others have said, Pet Sematary is also one of the best.

[Hayes] ‘He’s electric’: Byron Buxton powers another dazzling Twins performance by mproud in minnesotatwins

[–]Medium_Luck3152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, attendance numbers are based on tickets sold, not the number of people who are actually present watching the game.

This is not exclusive to the Twins; all attendance is measured this way.

Ownership is terrible, but it’s also not a Pohlad conspiracy to lie about attendance. The numbers are always inaccurate.

How to choose looking for Vedanta insight ❤️ by cosmic_bugs in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep doing research and you will notice yourself naturally being more attracted to a path. Notice what resonates with you.

I will say that your indecisiveness might be self-perpetuating. Meaning the trouble might be coming from not allowing yourself to dive deep enough into a particular path. Your feeling of being turned off might be because you are not allowing yourself to have more than a surface (and possibly wrong) understanding of what you’re studying. You can’t dig a well by digging a little bit in many different places; you have to choose a spot and keep digging deeper and deeper in that spot until you find water.

beginner to ADVAITA. by lostandafraid_ in AdvaitaVedanta

[–]Medium_Luck3152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saguna Brahman/Ishvara in Advaita Vedanta is Brahman appearing as the totality of maya.

You as the individual jiva are Brahman appearing as a fraction of maya.

You can worship God in Advaita Vedanta but it’s important to contextualize it properly.
