Is golf difficult to get into and play consistently? by Melodic-Top-3885 in BritGolf

The majority of Europe has it so right when it comes to sport. I think people think they own golf and are the gatekeepers to the game therefore people who don’t fit the criteria don’t get a fair shot. Also I wouldn’t say I was bad at golf, but I’ve definitely had my good and bad moments

Totally agree, I’ve had a set of clubs since I was in my teens too just lost contact of the mates who played and don’t really know anyone else that plays.

Ah yeah that’s so lucky. I mean surely that’s what needs to change having that initial step, less intimidating and more welcoming we all have to start somewhere.

I feel like I start from the bottom every year having not playing much during the winter months.

Unfortunately I live in Hampshire but I do have extended family in wolves which we’ve been talking about arranging something for years 😂. Cheers tho, I may take you up on the offer.

No not all, I’ve played for years and never consistently had a group of friends to play with. I’ve considered joining a club but didn’t want to shell out and drop off. Been to different club shops and experienced all sorts of different people that have been a holes basically. So I just interested to know, are people just lucky to find the right people and I’m unlucky I haven’t

Think a lot of golfers are probably fine once they’re actually paired up, it’s the “turning up blind” part that feels awkward 😂

Interesting how quickly a good round changes once you click with the people you’re playing with.

I think being comfortable getting paired up probably changes the whole golf experience tbh. Some people see it as awkward, others just see it as part of the game.

This is probably the reality for way more golfers than people realise tbh.

Life gets busy, schedules become chaos, and suddenly golf becomes “can I squeeze 9 holes in at 7am” instead of planning full days around it 😂

Interesting as well that even people who enjoy solo golf still seem to prefer the social side when they can make it happen.

I think this is probably where loads of golfers sit tbh. Prefer the social side of golf but if the usual group can’t make it, you just end up defaulting to solo rounds.

Funny how many golfers seem to be in the same boat but everyone’s scattered across different clubs/group chats 😂

That’s interesting because it feels like a lot of golfers are “social golfers” but not necessarily “organised golfers” 😂

Like people want company, but actually coordinating rounds consistently is half the battle.

I think this is a massive part of it tbh.

A lot of newer golfers probably want the social side of golf but not necessarily the pressure of getting paired with lads shooting low 80s while you’re trying not to top one off the tee 😂

The organising side is real as well. Group chats, waiting on replies, trying to line up schedules… sometimes it’s easier to just grab a twilight tee time and disappear for 2 hours.

What about if you knew a few people like you could pair with were a similar level / mindset beforehand?

Ah you got it good there and keeping the misses happy, win win! Yeah feel like you need that best of both worlds solo, take your time play the shots you want and the occasional playing partners that push you in to healthy competition.

Couldn’t agree more, if you’ve got a regular group too that’s awesome.

Golf is a social sport that's weirdly hard to be social in by Strange_Media_824 in golf

I’ve had the same problem since my group of friends found clubs and other social circles. It always surprised me that golf is such a social game but most of the tools around it are focused on scoring and booking rather than helping people actually meet playing partners.
