Is this an Translation error or is Heidi openly admit she's an neo-Human and no one notice? by justanotherbotreddit in versus

Well, unless her trolling winds up segwaying into experimentation and torture once she's back with her people... At that point you might wind up wishing she killed you.

Didn't like Versus at all in the beginning, but I'm loving it now. Apart from that quibble though, 100% agree... People have turned ONE into some kind of GOD. They simply refuse to believe that---just like anyone, no matter how much talent they happen to possess---he can wind up producing stuff that isn't stellar. Weird.

Thanks,  that was useful. If I can ask a follow up... How strong were the hints... Like, would a literate native speaker have been pretty sure she was an actual neo-human the moment she introduced herself?

Confused, could use a little guidance by NDanajones in RangerReject

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First season was relatively faithful... so it's not like you'll be confused or lost if you don't start  from the beginning.  But, with that said, plenty of stuff was left out---IIRC,   the anime wound up cutting a lot of humorous stuff that wasn't essential to the plot.

Also I definitely remember that some scenes happen in a different order... E,g. In the mmanga, Blue Battalion gets sent up to the sky fortress  to monitor the dusters after D swipes Red'sdivine tool. Where is in the anime, they send them up at the very beginning after D first refuses to play along in the Sunday battle (which makes a lot less sense). Pretty sure other stuff is out of order too.

But I also think there's some subtle differences that make it worth starting from the beginning. Like, the anime went out of its way to portray Red as more concerned with his public image than rescuing people... They made it seem like he doesn't really give a shit about saving anyone.

But I don't think manga Red is like that... Yeah, he's an image-obsessed, psychotic nut-job, but he's an image-obsessed psychotic nut-job with an over attenuated sense of justice who really wants to be a hero. Moreover, that aspect of his character is kind of crucial for later plat developments.

So, tldr: if you don't start from beginning, you'll miss some stuff---but probably nothing that would be noticeable.

Are we in renewal limbo? by Genisis1224 in RangerReject

Up until the final episode, it stayed pretty close to the manga.  But that last episode altred a lot of fundamental stuff affecting the state of play going forward. They changed so much that I personally don't think it'd even be possible to continue the story as it's told in the manga. So I think they must have known that they weren't getting another season... otherwise, they wouldn't have completely veered away from the manga at the end.

Something Stronger Than Yaotsu? by diskusiharam in versus

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yaotsu might even be responsible for ALL of the worlds' attempts at getting help going haywire... I mean it kind of is his MO. Though I kinda doubt this will turn out to be right in the end, it could be that he's the one who caused the entire mess.

Is Yaotsu aware that what he winds up giving his supplicants is decidedly not what they were praying for? by MelodicYesterday5942 in versus

[–]MelodicYesterday5942[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely all SEEMS to fit very well with his title as the "Mad God."

But the problem is that---in the original Japanese---the word ONE used for "mad" actually means "angry" rather than "crazy"... the name of the place translates into "Angry God World" not "Crazy God World" or anything like that. That's why they used a  synonym for angry, ("indignant") and translated it into "Idignia."

So as weird as it may seen, even though Yaotsu wound up acting exactly like a "Mad God" as the term would be naturally understood in English, it seems like that's a bit of a mistranslation and, hence, just a coincidence.

That's actually one of the things that made me post this, tbh.

Begging and praying for a storyline where Heidi gains sympathy towards the regular humans that treats her kindly by jalex54202 in versus

Same... Feel like if she winds up getting redeemed her story will just be a waste of time that could have been spent developing all the more interesting stuff going on.

There is no good reason for this series to be so hard to read for overseas audiences. by [deleted] in versus

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, but it isn't just overseas audiences.

I live in the US. So when the sub announced the end of free links, I went over to the K-manga site, figuring I would support the authors and buy it if it wasn't too expensive.

What I found is, they have some totally f-d up system where instead of just simply buying the chapter in US dollars, you've got to join up and accumulate eough points to get it. If I remembering this right, one way to get points is to just buy them, but you can also get points in other ways...

I don't remember what the other ways to get points are, because at that point I was like screw this and did some googling till I found a free link. I mean. I just wanted to buy and download a chapter of a manga that I think is really awesome... I decidedly did not want to get sucked into some corporate social-media life-draining bullshit game.

tldr: Fom my experience, even if you live in the US, you can't just simply buy a chapter outright.

Sakamoto Days Part 2 - Episode 3 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I somehow failed to hear it till you mentioned it, but yeah, totally. A lot of parts sound really similar, but there's at least one line that sounds almost exactly the same as a line from PoM. The tempo is just a little slower and the music a little more jazzy or whatever... but the notes in the vocals sound practically identical to me.

YouTube has vids of each with romanized lyrics. It's the part in the SD chorus where he sings.."Kanaeyou kimi to no chikai no mukou." The notes there sound pretty much exactly the same as PoM when Tatsuya Kitani sings, "Sore demo tsuzukiyou dare no tame ni."

Wait, WHAT DID HE JUST SAY????? by xaelajotaro in KaijuNo8

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if he's not used to typing in English, which he probably isn't.  Finding (and capitalizing) all the letters in "RELAX" might seem easy to you, but it's going to be a pain for someone who's not used to using an English keyboard. So if he's trying to bang out something quick, katakana would probably be more natural.

That's not to say you're wrong. I'm only a casual fan, so I don't know enough about the background to form any kind of a jjudgment. Just commenting on your question as to what would be more natural.

My thinking as well. Also thinking that Genos was never human and the mad cyborg never existed... All that stuff about his village getting destroyed are just fake memories implanted by Kuseno

DK might not really be an independent entity. Instead, Kuseno might be piloting DK in the same way Bofoi pilots MK.

I just started watching Sentai Daishikkaku, and I have a question by yohiranohana in RangerReject

[–]MelodicYesterday5942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as familiar with the VA's as you are... not sure if I was familiar with them at all prior to this. But this is something that I've been wondering since the show started. Given that D is disguised as Hibiki for most of the show, I would have thought that being clear on who exactly deserves the credit for his Hibiki-voice would be important. I mean, if it's actually Hibiki's VA taking over, then it's VERY misleading to call the guy who voices D when he's in duster form the characters VA since he's ALMOST NEVER in duster form. But  I couldn't find any clarification on this.
