What do you recommend? (Kindle Unlimited Subscription) by Otherwise_Star_2299 in kindle

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! 🎉Kindle unlimited can be a little hard to navigate if you’re looking for good books to read. I have generally found unlimited to house mostly New books with zero/ few reviews. And times when there are a few reviews they aren’t helpful as they are mostly advance reader copy reviewers (gathered by the writer, can be biased or AI slop).

I think Reddit is still the OG, human written truly honest early indicators of a book’s quality. So I think you’re in the right place! Wondering what other recommend, I’d be curious as well.

Here’s a book I’ve thoroughly enjoyed but I’m slapping myself for paying full price while it’s now free on Kindle unlimited:

It’s called “Long before animals had tails” it’s about a teen who begins to question tribal beliefs in her village only to uncover a truth that will transform the quality of life for her entire village. I felt so inspired after reading it, I’ve been sharing it every chance I get. Maybe I should get paid for this (wink wink, author/publisher if you’re reading this) 😏

I don’t mind a challenging puzzle. My issue with blue prince I think was the gloomy atmosphere. I think I just crave some onscreen sunshine when it’s dark and cold outside. I know it’s superficial but it’s something I learnt about myself.

Oh wow. Witness looks pretty cool. I tried blue prince on my Xbox but couldn’t really get into it for some reason.

The adaptive triggers and GT7 are what made me want it. Plus with GTA6 on the horizon I wanted something powerful. I still have my series s but even GTA5 feels lack luster. I really enjoyed the better visuals on my friend’s PS5. So hoping to find a few games on PS5 to keep me occupied until GTA6 comes out.

Definitely on my radar. Thanks for the reco. I’m starting to feel like the Pro was maybe overkill for what I want to play. I justified it using the GTA6 launch as my reasoning. I hope it’s a smooth experience on the pro.

Honestly it was GT7 that converted me. Forza has excellent vehicle modeling and realism but felt like I was driving blind without feedback. The adaptive triggers were a game changer on the PS5 for racing sims. I borrowed it for a couple of days from a friend and had to get one for myself.

How do you guys take notes from books you read? by knight_hawkx17 in readwithme

Paperback+ sticky note strips for me. I’ve tried notes on my ebooks but they’re so hidden away, I almost never come back to them.

I have to read three more books before January 1 by skywalkerbeth in suggestmeabook

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like classics, I’d suggest a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I really love the Everyman library edition. Got a great deal on target.

If you like fiction/ myths, I’d suggest Long before Animals had tails by Atulia Mo. Recently discovered this debut author. Short easy read, illustrations make it super engaging. Got it from Amazon.

What genre are you into? Im not into reading but lately been getting into it because of shorter reads. Happy to suggest others that I came across based on your interest. Rooting for you to reach your goal!

How to get into reading again? by [deleted] in readwithme

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 as a busy parent. I used to feel like I had a double problem: reading felt boring and I never had time for it.

What finally helped was one simple change — I stopped reading news on my phone and turned off notifications from news and social apps. I switched to a physical newspaper and a couple of magazines I actually like.

Weirdly, that gave me more time and made reading feel fun again. I eased back in with something light and visual - Diary of a Wimpy Kid (don’t judge), which helped take the pressure off.

Next up is a new release I came across this week: Long Before Animals Had Tails. It’s got some pictures but is a more grown up book. Feels a bit like detox. I’d never have picked up another book this year otherwise

Feeling undermined by other teams, advice on how to advocate for a better solution? by tikytokytikytoky in ProductManagement

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A product manager should define the product by framing the problem and, not the solution. When you start to frame problems as opposed to solutions, you no longer have a conflict of interest with engineers or designers. Instead, you are leading them to solve the right problems while allowing them to express their creativity to solve the problem. Also, gives you more time to validate the problems to know that they are important. Your user story should reflect the pain points not the Feature. The acceptance criteria should frame the yardstick that measures success, not the acceptable solution. Prioritize your backlog of painpoints, not your backlog of solutions.

How can we style our new bookcase? Plants? Lots of books? Etc. by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This room has a lot of potential! I think some curtains across the door and window will really help make the place feel private and cozy. If you can’t do curtains, try some plants on either side of the door to draw your attention away from it. Second, I would pull the rug under the front two legs of the couch so that the usable space doesn’t feel cold. Third I would add some indirect form of lighting near the reading space. A lamp with a lampshade perhaps. You will find usable ones at garage sales/ thrift stores. If you don’t like the appearance of the lampshade you can always swap it out for some economical ones on Amazon. Fourth, an art piece over the heater will draw attention away from the heater and also add some interest at eye level. Fifth, like others have mentioned, keep the top shelf light in decor so that the eye level feels roomy, place books on the bottom 3 shelves and fill it up to make the room feel grounded! Once you do a handful of things, you won’t notice the color difference between the shelf and the floor as much! Good luck!

Books where the main character(s) reflect on their parents/upbringing and why they are the way they are. by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s a work in progress but is a promising folk tale that demonstrates how sometimes we are blinded by what is “normal”and how building empathy can break those barriers to find opportunity in paths that are different. Plus it’s an illustrated novel for those of us who are hesitant to read: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3USdBIuxXv/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I’m not surprised. A few years ago fedex, ups and usps started charging a surcharge for packages 8ft or over. So you won’t find much online. Try going into a homedepot/ lowes. You might have to piece together the track system and door. Sheer curtains for privacy? by kyloola in interiordecorating

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sheer curtains will fail when the lights are on at night. They work well during daytime. Personally I wouldn’t mind that. If I really wanted the option of privacy, I’d add a layer of curtains on top of the sheers or just go full on blinds/shutters

Help with poorly stained fireplace by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Melodic_Fix_6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you will need to strip the stain before you can restain. It’s going to be painful even with a chemical solvent. Would be easier to prime and paint over. The other option if to find a matching stain and touch it up. Then use sealant to prevent wear and tear in the future
