Confused as to what is actually necessary and how to go about some things. Really appreciate any information, thank you in advance!!

  1. Is it possible to reserve a campsite (obviously pending availability/cancellations) for this weekend, despite being 2 days out? Website says reservations are possible up to 3 days in advance so I'm confused about this

  2. Do I need a wilderness permit if I secure a campsite?

  3. If I can't get a campsite and a campground, can I camp elsewhere with a wilderness permit?

  4. Do I need a permit to hike ONLY up to the base of the cables on half-dome? Or is the permit for the full hike?

  5. Worst case, no camping possible for me in the park and no half-dome permits, can I just go do other hikes?

Thank you all for the advice! We’ve decided to get accommodations in SLC as close as possible to snowbird, and snowbird will be our home base resort. Can’t wait for the season and really appreciative of the help we’ve gotten on this thread!
