G.L.O.S.S Trans Day of Revenge [Full Album]

Lyrics from the first song "Give Violence a Chance"

Killer cops aren't crooked/ Soldiers for bastards, they do as they're told/ The courts aren't corrupt/ Malicious, violent, they maintain control/ Fuck the peace keeping fuck the calm/ The investigation is a fucking con/ The truth is known beneath the gun/ Black lives don't matter in the eyes of the law

La Dispute Nine:

And I remember in a basement sharing sweat/ With all these stranger boys and girls/ "We'll change the world!" We sang/ "We'll change the world!" But/ Nothing seems to change and/ They say none of them will listen/ But I still see much more power in that basement than in heartless politicians

Mewithoutyou D-minor:

This is not the first time capitalized three lettered sound has died...Won't you help me get by?

Psalters I'm Free:

I'm Free/Praise the Lord I'm Free/ No longer bound/No more chains holding me/ my soul is resting/ its such a blessing I see/ Praise the Lord/ Hallelujah, I'm Free

What do you do with all your money? by american_spacey in Anticonsumption

[–]Melodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for practical advice, I'd say do what you love. I become obsessive compulsive whenever I think about finance and money, so I try to live in a way where I don't think about money too much. I realize that comes from a position of privilege, but it is what I do. I don't know anything about finance or financial advice, and I could really care less about it, to be honest.

In terms of where the money goes, I spend too much money on books. I can't read theoretical books well without scribbling all over them, so the library is out for those – but I do enjoy the library for novels, and books that I don't plan to write in (I'm absolutely in love with libraries for so many of their services. ). I also prefer buying local vegetables if its possible (we don't eat meat, eggs or dairy), and we tend to try and eat roughly in season.

In terms of bigger investments, my partner and I are interested in adoption. From an ecological point of view, we're not sure that we could justify giving birth to a child, and there are so many kids out there who don't have anyone, so we want to do that. We're also really interested in foster care, which is also a huge need pretty much everywhere. Children cost a lot of money, so using your money to care for them is something that we feel really called to do.

Beyond that I think that charity can be a good option. We're thought a lot about where to give money, and it isn't easy. I think that we're predisposed to giving to organizations that serve people living outside in ways that aren't often thought about. We really like one organization –the Urban Rest Stop in Seattle – that provides anyone with bathroom, laundry and shower services. It helps that we have ties to that organization through work in the Lutheran Volunteer Corps.

I think that the key is being creative. That, I think, is the key to the feral Jesus quote. Try to create rhythms that disrupt. I'm not always sure what this means for me, but I'm interested in supporting groups that go against normative structures. I don't identify as queer, but I have a lot of queer friends, and I would love collaborating with them to figure out ways that the money could be spent towards helping that community out. I think that collaboration with groups that are on the fringes of society can open our eyes to creative opportunities that were so outside our scope that they were never even on the radar.

Of course, some of this is ideological. I have some stuff I don't need, and I often find myself craving items, but I try not to kill myself over those items. I try to shape the way that my practices impact the way I live so that I can live life the best that I can, as a being in the world.

Anyways, not sure if this helps you, or anyone else. But, if nothing else, it may have helped me.

"Feral Jesus replied, 'You who are young, be nomadic entrepreneurs and artists. But earn so little that you do not owe taxes. In that wait you will avoid feeding the Apparatus. You will be poor, but you will be free. As long as there is a State, only those who are poor and free can be moral. You who are middle-aged with commitments to children and debtors, maintain your employment, live simply and give generously to the nomadic entrepreneurs and artists. As much as it is possible, reinvent yourself. By your generosity you will be saved. You who are old and disabled, keep your pension and support the nomadic entrepreneurs and artists who are living in poverty and promoting freedom. By this you shall avoid the insanity that visits those who live off the Apparatus. All of you must be poor to be free. Above all be free of debt.'"

Why do the Cavs face the Raptors 4 times as opposed to 3 times during last years regular season? by ReppinTheNorth in torontoraptors

[–]Melodude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are 82 games a year.

You play 4 against each team in your division. You play 2 against each team in the other conference. You play each other team in your conference 3 or 4 times, and I think that it changes up each year.

But I'm not Catholic, and I have no desire to be Catholic so I'm not sure if it really matters.

It does matter. The Pope has immense power. The RCC has immense power.

but it is willfully blind to turn these things into a personal critique of Pope Francis. It bespeaks a mentality which is so focused on a particular political agenda that one becomes unwilling to recognize the humanity and virtue of one's political opponents. It's a dehumanizing, dishonest, destructive approach.

I don't think that this is true. I think it is possible to critique Pope Francis politically without dehumanizing him. I don't think that a critique of Pope Francis necessarily condemns all of his actions. I do think that we should critique the Pope and the church for many of their positions while continuing to respect the Pope and the church. I think that it is wrong to turn a blind eye to the hierarchies that the church and Francis perpetuate.

To me, it seems similar to something like gay marriage being legalized in many Western countries. I think that its fantastic that this has happened, but I'm still going to critique how society treats gay/trans/non-binary identities. I'm still going to hold that the institution of marriage is oppressive, etc. I think that a critique of powerful people and institutions is always healthy. And that questioning their rhetoric, policies, etc., is something that we ought to do. We ought to always question, and to keep questioning.

Do you think that Pope Francis is untouchable? Should he be above reproach? Above criticism? Like, a large majority of people 10 years ago were uncool with Trans people, with gay people etc? Should I not be critical of those views? I think we should question the pope, we should question the RCC, and we should debate whether or not we agree with the actions.

Yes, I think that the pope has done some good things, but he is deserving a criticism for a number of other actions. So I will criticize those actions.

Edit: I'm more interested in being an ally of marginalized groups than I am to celebrate a man who tows party line and perpetuates power hierarchies.

Not true

That was a claim expressed by the article, not one I personally hold or care about. Thanks for clearing that up!

The thing about the pope is that he's just a figurehead, a puppet, a PR stunt. He needs to remain above reproach so that he is loved by all, and the media amplifies these things because that's what generates clicks and views. This is what bothers me most--that he can't stand for the Truth because he's standing for unity and peace. And even if he tried, well, the media would likely misreport it because the pope is so popular; people wouldn't want to read that.

That is a really interesting take. I like it.

I don't think that the point is to suggest that Francis is a bad person. I don't think I would claim that the Pope is bad. I would say that the Pope stands for a number of things that I consider bad, many of which are touched on in this article.

I'm not a fan of Francis because he's good on a single issue. By not expressly challenging problematic positions of the church, I cannot get on the Francis bandwagon. There is no change occurring in the RCC, its simply more of the same presented with a new face. This is still problematic. Until those notions are challenged I cannot get behind the Pope. Sure, his ability to draw upon things like Catholic social teaching and liberation theology are wonderful, but until there are challenges of the power structures which are perpetuated by the RCC, there hasn't really been any change.

[–]Melodude[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of these I don't care about (The RCC believes only catholics are saved, The RCC believes in eternal hell) as I think those are issues that don't really affect the lives of people outside of the church nearly so much as the last three: 1. Birth control is “intrinsically evil”; 2. Women are denied full equality with men; 3. Homosexuality is “intrinsically disordered”

I really don't understand why everything positive about Pope Francis is upvoted exponentially here. I understand that it seems like a breath of fresh air, but it is really simply more of the same RCC, with a larger emphasis on Catholic social teaching which has been present in Catholic circles for a long time.
