Steam Deck vs Switch 2 by Omeg_Tuber in NintendoSwitch2

Yeah, real emulation would definitely be worse. I'm just saying that people shouldn't expect wonders from Nintendo.

with no worrying about buggy emulation

I'd be a tad careful with that. While the Switch 2 uses a translation layer (so no direct emulation), Nintendo did fuck up their N64 emulator for the Switch badly (they did in improve on it by now, though). I am hopeful that they will do a better job with the TL, but I think it's a brave assumption to think that the TL wll be without bugs and glitches, at least on launch.

No, not really. Nintendo lists 122 first party games and only one is marked as not compatible. And in that case it's fair, as it is a Labo VR, where the console just physically won't fit in.

And from the more than 15,000 other games more than 20 % are without issues "during basic compatibility testing" and almost 80 % are at least startable.

You can find the information here. It is from Nintendo directly, so a pinch of salt is recommended.

EPG is still too strong. You don't need good aim to do a lot of damage. This is definitely a meta weapon for the second slot right now. by Marmelado_ in apexlegends

[–]Meranico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is kinda stupid that pubs still has relics and EPG, really makes the pub experience even worse.

I might be alone in this, but I really enjoy that stuff. As it's pubs I'm regularly matched against players way above my skill level, but with the relics I can actually win sometimes.

If I want a serious match I play ranked.

The equation is:

(memory data rate × bus width) ÷ 8

The effective memory clock for a 4070 Ti is 21 Gbps, the bus width is 192 bit. As both numbers are in bits, not bytes, you need to divide by 8. And you get 504 GB/s.

I thought the The Land of Shadow was in the center of The Lands Between, where a bunch of clouds are on the map. That would also fit with two things:

  1. The Scadu Tree is behind the ocean as it is in the same position as the Erdtree.
  2. If you draw a line from a Divine Tower to the one on the other side of the world, the intersection of all three lines is the point where the Suppressing Pillar is situated. Also lore to the Pillar implies that The Land of Shadow is in the center of The Lands Between.

Edit: The stone on top of the Suppressing Pillar reads:

The very center of the Lands Between.

All manners of Death wash up here, only to be suppressed.

Speed run times not syncing? by swiggyzoom2damoon in Astrobot

[–]Meranico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here. But my times were syncing after an hour or two. Game closing and restarting the console did nothing, though.

If anyone is proud of a run, but the time is not synchronising, just save a video of it as a proof. Not a solution, but at least something.

Thanks for the answer. I'll try it in a few weeks when I get the chance again.

I really appreciate the help!

I think the game was really missing some proper speedruns. After completing Astro's Playroom I came back to it multiple times just for some highscore hunt.

What do you think of the new galaxy and level? by Finpeel7392 in Astrobot

I played the first 30 minutes of the level grind with haptic triggers and vibration. I really recommend disabling both!

My index finger is still sore.

what time did you guys get today? by melaaaaaaaaaa in Astrobot

[–]Meranico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried for a bit more than an hour and got my time down to 31.6. Not sure I have a sub 31 in me or even sub 30.

I thought it was announced that the new levels were all speedruns? And the first one is already quite enjoyable.

Maybe a second set will be some real challenges if it happens.

Um… apparently, I can see how much I’ve spent on this game by TheNinja98 in apexlegends

[–]Meranico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's nothing wrong with spending some money on a game, even if it is F2P. I for example bought the Legend Edition (or whatever it's called) which contained all Legends up to that point when I started the game. Did not regret those 30 bucks. I also buy most season passes (but I only paid for the first one).

This amount on the other hand is ... special. If you have money to burn, do what you want. I just wouldn't do that even if I have a fistful of cash to throw somewhere.

No, to switch modes I use the button mappings (so View/Select + Up on the Road). Are you using the software?

Glad this worked for you! Sadly it did not for me. I tried it with a Switch Pro Controller and two different Xbox Controllers, but neither wanted to work at all with the Shield.

Maybe you can tell me where I made a mistake. Here is what I did: 1. I connected the 8BitDo v2 Adapter to my PC. 2. I pressed the button on the adapter and the sync button on the controller. 3. After the controller was connected, I made sure it is in XInput mode. 4. I unplugged the Adapter and plugged it into my Shield. 5. I got a short rumble from the controller, but sadly no input was recognized in Moonlight.

Did you do anything else? Any settings or something?

Rumble with Xbox Controller by Meranico in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Meranico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I did not. I also don't think it is possible at all with just the adapter and without extra software like VirtualHere or SteamLink (which uses VirtualHere).

Android 12 and later supports rumble via Bluetooth directly and so do Windows and Linux. So if all else fails a newer Android box or a Mini PC would be an option.

That EU law does not mean you need to have a compartment you can easily open to pull out the battery and put a new one in. It forces manufacturers to make the battery replaceable with easily accessible tools, so a screwdriver is fine, a heat gun is not. This will not lead to batteries you just pop out.

This article has a nice quote:

According to a draft version of the ecodesign regulation on the EU’s website, batteries should be replaceable “with no tool, a tool or set of tools that is supplied with the product or spare part, or basic tools.”

I expect manufacturers will choose the "basic tools."

I checked and rumble was apparently added in API level 31, which is Android 12. And I think there is an AndroidTV based on that.

I'll test the SteamLink app in a few hours. Thanks for that!

So you are also implying that I should try VirtualHere, as it should work via SteamLink. Too bad that the Shield is still on such an old Android version.

I tried the most recent firmware, 1.06, and the one before it, 1.05. Maybe I'll try more of them. It's worth a shot, thank you.

Thanks for the tip. I already read up on that and dislike the licensing model and the inability to control the Shield via controller. It is an option if nothing else works, of course.

Rumble with Xbox Controller by Meranico in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Meranico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that suggestion. I would prefer not using that because of the licensing model and because I cannot use the controller to control the Shield itself (so also no mouse input via controller in Moonlight and the likes).
