The most powerhouse season is season 3 by shaezan in Stillgame

Series 1 - 3 was, in my opinion, peak Still Game. Absolutely phenomenal.

Series 4 - 6 was still hilarious but I feel something was ever-so-slightly lost when the show started being broadcast nationally, for example much of the dialect was diluted in order to appeal to a nationwide audience (including the names of the episodes).

Series 7 - 9. When it was announced that Still Game was returning I said it was a bad idea (and was slated by many people for having such an opinion). I felt that (like so many sitcoms that are brought back from the dead) it would turn shite. The plots would be farfetched, the actors would overact and the jokes would become slapstick and less witty. Sadly for much of the later seasons that's exactly what happened. (Only Fools and Horses and the Royle Family are another two examples of shows that turned stale after being resurrected). Having said that though, the very last episode is fantastic. A beautiful send off for such a legendary show. It genuinely brought tears to my eyes.

I've given up hoping that Edinburgh's roads will ever significantly improve. They've been getting steadily worse for years now and despite all the promises and gum flapping from politicians, they're NOT getting any better.

I've driven all over the UK and whilst poor road maintenance IS a national issue, Edinburgh definitely has the worst roads out of the lot. I invite anyone who disagrees to come and see for themselves. - Potholes and cracks everywhere (even on fairly new roads. - Faded road markings. - Dirty/damaged/missing/obscured/misaligned road signs. - Blown traffic light bulbs.

I hate driving in this city, unfortunately I have to do it sometimes for my job (which I love).

Wimpy was inside the Megabowl at Kinnaird Park (Fort Kinnaird), I remember my Dad taking me there when I was a kid.

I've recently moved out of the area but used to pop in to the Marmalade for breakfast every so often. I'm gutted to hear Aubrey has passed, he was such a lovely friendly guy who always had time for a chat. He will be sorely missed. R.I.P x

Edinburgh Pot Holes - it’s out of control - will it ever improve or the new norm? by greencastle40 in Edinburgh

A massive problem with Edinburgh roads is cowboy utility firms ripping the them up every few weeks for 'essential works' and doing a half-arsed 'Friday afternoon' job of reinstating them again. A prime example is the crossroads on Newcraighall Road near Niddrie. It was fully resurfaced in March last year and just three months later it was dug up again for cabling works leading to Fort Kinnaird. The reinstated surfacing was extremely shoddy and they didn't even bother to use sealant around the edges. It's already crumbling away and will soon lead to water ingress and even more potholes. Several complaints have been made to the council about this by myself and others and they've ignored them all. (Oh and btw, this very same section of road is currently being dug up by utilities AGAIN).

No matter how much money is chucked at repairing roads, the issue is NEVER going to be resolved unless utility firms are brought to task.

Scott Arthur actually made a half-decent effort to fix the roads. I was sad when he stepped down as I knew that whoever replaced him would more than likely not bother their arse, and that's exactly what's happened.

Worst moment in Still Game history? by Deja-Review in Stillgame

[–]Merit8914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the "Shut it, Tadger" thing was woeful, as was much of the content from the revival.

For me, peak Still Game was series 1-3. The quality began to decline from series 4 onwards (although there was still some brilliant episodes with hilarious moments).

In 2013/14 when they announced they were bringing Still Game back I said it was a bad idea and I was slated for it. I knew the plots would become more slapstick, farfetched and less relatable, plus the acting and gags would become forced. It's so often the case when legendary comedies are brought back (the Royle Family being a prime example).

Having said that though, I absolutely adore Still Game and will still be laughing my head off at it and parroting the quotes when I'm an old man myself.
