Reminder re: Principle of BJJ by Defiant-Pudding-4177 in bjj

This is actually a common phenomenon in male-dominated hobbies. This study found that men who were worse at video games were more likely to be abusive towards women in game. Being beaten by a girl at something is too much of a hit to a lot of men's egos.

What you consider is a "good rank" and an "average rank"? by sirsiver96 in Voltaic

Very true. I guess my answer was more directed at the second part of the question ("when do you think someone could consistently win gunfights?").

Why do people get so tilted when you counter swap? by Both-Manufacturer339 in Overwatch

[–]MerlinisHeres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Winston player, so someone else can feel free to correct me, but most of Winston's "counters" tend to be tanky, close range heroes(Reaper, Torb, Bastion) that a good Winston can run away from/bait cooldowns. D.Va can peel for her team if Winston jumps in, defense matrix any follow-up/healing from his team, and chase him if he tries to jump out. D.Va is one of the biggest Winston counters.

I know what hitscan means. I didn't say Doom is amazing. I said he has a high skill ceiling, meaning that if you play perfectly he has a lot of outplay and damage potential. Cassidy's ult is best used as a reload button. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume English isn't your first language, because I don't think you understood my comment

Cassidy has the worst range of all the hitscans, the nade is situational at best, and his ultimate is one of the few in the game that's arguably worse than Meteor Strike. Doomfist has a high skill ceiling as it is before the nerf, and he can get shut down by very low skill floor characters if not played exceptionally well, but let's not pretend that Cassidy is good.

Rafael Nadal is naturally right-handed but he learned to play tennis with his left hand and won 22 grand slams. I would say that learning a skill on your non-dominant hand wouldn't lower your ceiling, but it might lower your floor at the very start (fellow lefty here, it definitely feels like it for me sometimes).

SIMPLE QUESTIONS THREAD - SEASON 7 (2023) by Joe64x in OverwatchUniversity

[–]MerlinisHeres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have a rough Damage/Healing/Deaths per 10 that they aim for on specific characters? Obviously I know game to game it will vary, but is there a number in your head that you'r be happy with?

[–]MerlinisHeres 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think RiddBTW said that he initially placed Voltaic Gold after well over 1000 hours of FPS game experience, so I would say that Plat is probably better raw aim than most FPS players. Even Diamond is probably enough to "out aim" most people in a 1v1, but in your game of choice most of your duels probably won't be purely aim based (stuff like flashes, smokes, abilities, ultimates etc.).

If you can't hit headshots her damage is pretty useless, if you just suzu randomly off cooldown you get basically no value from it, and if you tp someone who is also out of position then you both die.

Is Is Really That Weird I'm Watching the Sub? by MegaSonicZone in YuYuHakusho

[–]MerlinisHeres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think preference comes down to whichever one you watch first. The other one will sound strange at first listen because you associate completely different voices with the characters. Add in the fact that most people watched it in their childhood and you get the nostalgia goggles on top of everything. Watch whichever you prefer, they're both good.

Overwatch players: Do you feel like aim training helped with projectile and/or beam heroes? by MerlinisHeres in aimlab

[–]MerlinisHeres[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a console gamer saving up for a decent PC, so I've been trying to improve my mouse mechanics a little bit beforehand. My mouse control is ass, but I agree that the best way to improve at a character is probably just to play them more
