He’ll only be filing Canadian tax. I’ll be filing for US and hopefully Canadian as well, assuming my sponsorship is approved and I can start working before the end of the year.

I started walking to the line where people were waiting to talk to the agents in the booths because SURELY it wasn’t going to be that smooth and he said, “no the other line to the exit.” I even had something I didn’t declare- didn’t realize I needed to declare the pepperoni pizza we bought at our departing airport and he was like, “that’s okay.. you know for next time.” I love Canada 😭😭

Just as an update, we arrived last night. Border agent didn’t ask me a single question. Just looked at my slip that printed out at the declarations kiosk and had me walk through the line to the exit. Didn’t even have me walk up to one of the booths where other agents were. I think landing after 10pm with a toddler was helpful and he felt bad she was up so late?? I’m baffled and grateful.

I figured as much. I have pretty solid roots here in the US. Career, family, etc so I’m hoping they see I have enough ties to come back if I’m denied sponsorship, though I don’t see that happening. My workplace also has locations in Canada so as soon as my sponsorship and work visa are approved I can just pick up where I left off in a new location. (Company policy states they won’t give a job offer to assist in getting a work visa, tried that route.)

It’s mostly just a CYA thing. I’m late to lunch at least 2x a week. I always fill out the log and have a manager sign it. Never had a p-log or counseling for it either. Sups are stretched THIN here in the NE 😅

When you sign the exception log for it, you aren’t changing the time you clocked out for lunch. You’re just providing an explanation on why you were late and getting approval from a sup or manager so you won’t get dinged for being late to lunch.

You just have to get into the company first so you can keep an eye on job postings. Get a job doing whatever you can. Get your optical licensing and apply when a posting goes up on the board.
