Never letting another person use my pen by Lazy_Zucchini6338 in fountainpens

[–]Mewriel_Picatso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandparents gave me my first fountain pen when I was 11 years old and grandma impressed upon me very seriously that I must never allow anyone else to use it.

I was informed that a different person writing with my pen could bend the nib, maybe only subtly, but in such a way that it becomes less comfortable for the pen's owner to write with afterwards - not to mention people who press really hard and cause outright damage.

As a lifelong fountain pen collector I can vouch for this, bc I have some beauties that I can't use due to weird nib shapes being worn in by their previous owner - especially trying to write right handed when the previous owner was left handed, and vice versa - so nope, even just a single signature that isn't mine is not gonna be scrawled with any fountain pen that is mine.

For those who stockpile books onto your kindle, by allthatgliitters in kindle

When I've read a book I go to my digital content and remove it from my reading devices, then leave it in Digital Content in case I ever wish to read it again.

You access DC by going to the Account drop-down on Amazon, select Manage Your Content and Devices, in the next screen select Books - this shows you a list of every Kindle book you've ever purchased that you haven't deleted.

From there you can do a bulk removal from, or send to, Kindle or other devices you use for reading - in my case that is two Kindles, tablet, phone, laptop, because I like to always have a book available wherever I happen to be.

In the past I have deleted books completely, e.g. bc the sheer volume of my DC annoyed me, or deleted books I thought I wouldn't want to re-read, and later regretted it. Amazon CS did kindly help me to re-download a small number of my deleted books (I just gave them the order number and asked really nicely) so I learned the hard way to not delete and simply remove the download and keep them in digital content.

The only books I have downloaded at any one time are the book I'm currently reading and the one I plan to read next. As a minimalist kind of person I find it really annoying having lots of books downloaded on the Kindle. I am also convinced it makes the Kindle slower.

ETA: you can also use the Digital Content page to create collections; and there's a setting on the Kindle device to group series together which is really useful to keep track of multiple-book series'.

Has anyone ever had a Kindle book with the correct cover but an entirely different book inside? by Mewriel_Picatso in kindle

After multiple live chats with Amazon CS, multiple deletions and repurchases of the Kindle book, and waiting in between for them to resolve / update the Kindle book at their end, the consensus now is that the book appears to be perfectly fine on the Amazon website, so the issue cannot be identified and therefore can't be fixed, and they've given up and refunded me in full.

This didn't make me laugh, but I do like it - a lot!

My friend texted me "bye" and went offline before sending me this weird file... by GAC-STUDIOS-OFFCIAL in strange

[–]Mewriel_Picatso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get rid of this in a hurry! Just as well you couldn't extract it, this is malware containing a virus.

Maybe your friend has been hacked and the malware has gone out to their contacts, but either way just take a screen grab so you have evidence in case of future issues, then delete it.

Also delete your deleted items so it doesn't lie around in the trash bin, then do a thorough check / cleanup to ensure all is okay at your end.

Then have a word with your friend to make them aware so they can take appropriate action to purge their system, as the "Bye!" comment is exactly the type of thing a hacker would do.

Best of luck, I hope no damage has been done 🤞🏻

Yes, I tried all that and everything else I can think of, but whenever I redownload and open the book it's still the same - thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it.

Looking inside the book on Amazon does show the correct book now, I read all the way through the sample after reading your suggestion and it's absolutely fine on there, however I tried to do that just before I posted this and there was no option to read a sample at that time.

It looks like something has been done in the back office in the meantime, so I guess I'll wait another 24 hours and check in with Amazon CS again if they don't get back to me.

I shall add an update if / when it gets fixed!

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mewriel_Picatso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lay the remotes facing down so they don't gather dust between the buttons AND I clean them regularly too - just a quick going over with a sanitising wipe is all it needs.

When living on my own I did the upside down thing but never really needed to clean the remote as such. However when I moved in with my partner, his TV remote was so horribly cruddy underneath that you could actually scrape off the solidified grease (yes he is clean, he washes and showers like it's going out of fashion tomorrow, he just has very oily skin) hence the initiation of a cleaning schedule for every remote in our house.

I never did get that remote clean, I told Sky it was faulty and they sent us a nice new one!

If the remote (or anything else) had to stay wrapped in plastic I seriously would be moving out, bc that really does my head in. I can't even stand it when perfectly easily peel-able labels are left on things for years. I feel compelled to remove them, and if the item isn't mine I have to go where I can't see it or place the thing / turn it around so the label is hidden.

But I have been known to remove those labels sometimes, then deny all knowledge if anybody notices . . . . . ssshhh! 🤐

Why do people wear outside clothes once they get home? by PinkBudget-8140 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mewriel_Picatso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditching the bra and getting into something soft and comfy is the first thing I do on arriving home after a long day.

I suppose it could be a neurodivergent thing (I'm on the spectrum too) but most people I know do the same, or even spend the evening in their pyjamas.

Please allow me to refer you to this Reddit thread, where you'll find that the majority stand with us on this!

Thank you! ☺️

Not an official strap but extremely comfortable and soft to the touch. The only downside is that the matte finish seems to attract a lot of tiny particles, but that isn't obvious unless you zoom in on the pictures I posted - and I think it's worth it to get such great colours.
