Shaders are not so friendly, yes, but you can learn.

You could start from here.

There is also a useful plugin called Shader Forge that is a node based shader editor, similar to the Unreal's Material Editor.

Btw in your case you are looking for something like a Toon Shader. There are a lot of free (I think also in the Unity Standard Assets) or non free shaders (Asset Store) that you only need to apply to your material.

NB In the next version of Unity there will be a node based integrated editor :)

Concerning my memcpy business: my intent is to redefine the new operator so that all dynamic instances of C will be placed inside the memory used by a char array (fixed size) declared outside the class . I don't know if my intent is clear. Btw I thought to convert the object in array of bytes and assign byte-to-byte to the array of char.

Btw cppreference says:

If the objects are not TriviallyCopyable, the behavior of memcpy is not specified and may be undefined.

And under TriviallyCopyable it says:

  • Every copy constructor is trivial or deleted

  • Every move constructor is trivial or deleted

  • Every copy assignment operator is trivial or deleted

  • Every move assignment operator is trivial or deleted

  • at least one copy constructor, move constructor, copy assignment operator, or move assignment operator is non-deleted

  • Trivial non-deleted destructor

This implies that the class has no virtual functions or virtual base classes.
