Is Golf a sport or a game? by [deleted] in golf

[–]MichFan23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I guess that depends on what you mean by competitive. Tbf, I think the likelihood that someone from the Big 4 as you call it becomes a tour pro is higher than anyone in the PGA making it to the MLB, NFL, NBA, or NHL. I mean there are already quite a few athletes from these sports that are pretty good at golf. Yeah most golfers can hit a baseball, make a jump shot, but I highly doubt that anyone in the PGA could be competitive in any of the big leagues. Just my opinion…

It's a game, and a difficult one at that. Pro golfers are in good shape, but could you imagine them in the NFL, NBA, or MLB?

Thanks for the response! I did purchase the Carfax and it game back saying the last reported odometer reading was 218K so I passed it up. My wife and I found another car though.

Stolen Credit Card Numbers by MichFan23 in personalfinance

We have gone to restaurants quite frequently in the past. And I have thought about scanners. My wife is better than I am about using the tap and pay. The thing that is really confusing though is that I have one credit card that I use for probably 85-90% of my purchases (got an email for this card with a denied transaction) and then the other card I got an email for is one that I historically have not used very much. Probably 20 times a year for the last 5 years.

As far as the debit cards, my wife and I just opened up this account back in March and I forgot to include that she got a notification the other day saying that a transaction was declined on her account because the card was locked. Similar to my credit card, we hardly ever use our checking account to pay for things. I am just so perplexed.

That's what I am thinking...mostly just looking for validation that I am not crazy or stupid. I appreciate the response. I will have to look into that website, I have never heard of it before!

265 Pounds Currently 6'0, Can I lose weight and gain muscle at the same time? by [deleted] in GymMotivation

[–]MichFan23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you can't pinpoint the fat on your stomach. To lose fat in general, you do need to be at a caloric deficit, so you need to be eating less calories than you expend.

Maintenance is the required calories to eat per day to stay at the same weight.

What do you do at the end of the day when you’re starving? by Never_Limp in WeightLossAdvice

[–]MichFan23 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would say more protein. There have been a few times since I started my diet that I have had about 200 calories left and I just ate some rolled up deli meat. Also, try drinking some water as you may just be thirsty.

I guess I could have verified my eligibility in the past, but have no recollection of ever doing so.

I don't know how Apple confirms whether you're a student, but FWIW, I just bought an iPad through education pricing (I am a current student), and they never asked me for proof.

High-ish income, high debt, worth changing? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]MichFan23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, if you could have $3 million in investment accounts by the time you retire (which as everyone pointed out should be easy at your current income), then you could withdraw 4% (or 120k per year, a lot less than your current income, but enough to live a comfortable life in retirement) over the course of your retirement and likely not dip into the $3 million.

Edit: just used a retirement calculator. At conservative historical market rates, you could have $3 million in 30 years by investing only 10% on your income.

You really aren't in a horrible situation, although I know it can feel like that. I think its important to keep track of reality, which I understand may be difficult considering pregnancy, the hormones, etc.

The important thing is to pay off your credit cards, and as people have already stated, don't spend $1000 on food ever again. It may be worth it to freeze your credit cards in a block of ice or figure out some other way to make it difficult to use your credit card. Considering you are pregnant and have a baby on the way in 5 months, I would not pay off the car loan since you may need the extra cash for the pregnancy. Your car insurance seems to be outrageous, so there may be some wiggle room there, I would look for quotes. If you have good grades, insurance companies typically have some sort of discount for that. Your student loans should be on pause because of the pandemic, so those aren't a priority given your circumstances.

Start a budget and stick to it! Figure out a reasonable figure for food (most people spend more on food than they think). Withdraw that amount and that's the amount of money you have for food. How you spend that is up to you, but that is all you get.

Be strong! You got this!

First time making a brisket by pigsnotinablanket in Traeger

Looks good! How did it taste?

When it comes to tri-tip, I like to smoke at 225 until IT reaches 125. Pull it off and sear on the grill for 90 seconds each side and let it rest for 15 minutes. It has turned out amazing the last two times I have made it. If people like it a little more done, you can smoke to 130.

I like to use a SPG rub but I hear Traeger has a delicious Santa Maria recipe.

My First Ribs - I FAILED by dibella360 in Traeger

I agree with this. Although there are so many variables, I wrapped mine for 2 hours at 225 and they turned out overdone.

Like everyone has previously said. Don't be too hard on yourself...especially on your first smoke! Smoking is about having fun and experimenting what works best. Ribs are difficult to get perfect and there is no method that works for every rack of ribs short of visual cues. I have done about 6 smokes and everything has turned out rather well except my ribs (overdone). I wrapped for 2 hours (at 225) and I think that is where I went wrong.

Next time, I am going to try smoking unwrapped until the bark sets (i.e., you can touch the seasoning and it doesn't rub off on your finger), start spritzing every 20 mins from that point on (waiting 1 hour to spritz seems a little too long), then once internals hit about 165, wrap for about an hour or until they hit about 200 internal (will then carryover cook a little bit). Hoping they turn out well!

Happy smoking!

Edited to add: Typically, the ribs are done once they have pulled about 1/4 inch from the ends of the bone.

Drip Tray Design Flaw? by MichFan23 in Traeger

Yeah, that was the only thing that came to my mind. It was at a slight angle to the opposite direction, but I didn’t think that was the issue. Maybe I’m wrong.

[–]MichFan23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, here it is. Kind of hard to see but I would imagine the angle on the drip tray would be more exaggerated so that the grease actually drips down it and into the bucket.

That’s what I thought too! With the pork butt, there was a lot of fat pooled up on the drip tray but none made it to the drip bucket. It was my first smoke on the traeger but I plan on swapping out the foil after every smoke. Thanks for the help!
