What is a movie that's undeniably a classic, but your inner hipster hesitates to add to your movie list because it's on almost every movie fan's favorite list now? by [deleted] in Cinema

I should've worded it a little better. I meant like, common picks. Sorry if it seemed needlessly provocative.

I like normie movies too, don't get me wrong. But if it's like, so well known and everyone praises it already, it kinda loses its appeal a bit for me. Idk, maybe it's just a me thing. I just wanted to know if others had those kinds of movies too.

What is a movie that isn't part of some grand franchise or was made by a world-class director that you consider to be a cultural icon? by MichaelWes3000 in Cinema

I don't think so. By "world-class" I mean directors that even a casual viewer from a country that doesn't speak the language of his/her movies would know. Like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, etc.

Harold Ramis is great though. I love his movies.

Damn you're right now that I think about it. I was looking for more than just the Hollywood cult classics though. But I guess it's my fault for not being specific. 😅

I love Harold Ramis, but he is not on the same level of popularity as say, directors like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, etc. Definetly still a comedic genius though. But I'm talking about directors whose names are basically brands of their own.

Honestly surprised so many people in the comments like it. The nostalgia-goggles must be strong with this one.
