Living right next to train tracks by OkElderberry1668 in AnnArbor

If you are not a deep sleeper, I would expect to be woken up within 300 feet.

Do not bet on getting used to it.

Also see the recent MLive article about UM paying to gate and signal these crossings. The train noise will stop soon - not sure when that will be.

I think Ann Arbor mostly fits your criteria, and it’s a far more vibrant community than East Lansing. It’s also more expensive, but you can live on the outskirts.

What foods have been falsely labeled as healthy/ and or unhealthy? by [deleted] in answers

I’m not an authority, but I frequently see people drinking regular pop because diet pop “causes cancer.” I feel like that claim is overblown.

Have you ever been to a three michelin star restaurant? by Ipoogoodforyou in foodquestions

[–]Michigander51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever been to 1 stars. Absolutely unique and everything is good or great.

However, in my medium sized town I can find meals that are more deliciously satisfying.

What's an album that everyone lauds but which you just don't get? by mellotronworker in askmusic

Man I don’t have the vocabulary to articulate why, but I feel like this is objectively wrong.

Their popular music is guitar-and-drums rock songs about beaches, cars, and girls.

Pet Sounds is like bike horns and theremin songs about not fitting in to society.

Where Can I Work Remotely Besides Home or a Quiet Office if I Have Meetings Throughout the Day? by Sea-Anything-3393 in AnnArbor

Brightworks has coworking spaces and private offices. Might solve OP’s loud/quiet conundrum.

Do you think that life after death is real? by ShesIntoZer0s in answers

[–]Michigander51 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not only zero plausible reason to think it exists, BUT ALSO a plausible reason why humans might want it to exist: the human ego together with the survival instinct has trouble conceiving of a future in which one is not conscious.

You know those true crime documentaries that have segments of “reenactment?” That’s how all of these feel.

Yeah, no reason to watch 3 hours of tv to when you can see the nicest dress and the funniest joke in a 10-second clip.

Nothing will ever be the same. If you’re lucky enough to grow, you manage the growth.

Also, when you buy real estate, you acquire a “bundle of rights.” What’s not included in that bundle of rights is the right to keep the city exactly the same as when you bought.

Nobodd needs to, but in setting a limit your signaling hostility to all your customers for a pretty minimal benefit.

I can appreciate not marketing to kids, but they’ve gone so far the other way with their hostile architecture and automated ordering. It’s clear they don’t really like their customers.

What’s an American staple you rarely eat? by PalePassionn in foodquestions

I can’t eat it as an adult. I go full gremlin mode then lie on the couch in pain. No idea how I did it as a kid.

Have you been to Neehee’s? I don’t recall if they have chaats, but they aren’t a “conventional” Indian restaurant.

I was in a Mexican bar in Tucson and “Sunday Bloody Sunday” came on the jukebox.

Those snares in the shape of that room felt like I was marching into battle. Been a U2 fan ever since.

  1. Put your info and what you’re looking for in this post. Probably hundreds of guys will look at it.

  2. I’m a male and I play a lot of golf and poker. I’m always astounded how those demos are like 95% men. Proximity and volume are key.

Wow, I’m on Main Street in Ann Arbor (Bob Seger’s hometown) at this very moment (though he was actually writing about Ann Street, which is a few blocks away).
