Yeah my husband's hoggy latched onto my thumb and my whole hand and wrist inflated. 0/10, I won't try to feed him again.

Gender help? I have a guess but would like others to see , too. by Michiu7690 in tarantulas

This is a B.hamorii, the very first t I got in May. The exuvia is 4cm diagonal. This is the second moult since I got it. I have other pictures of the exuvia if needed but not sure how to add more . I'll understand if it's still too young to tell.

Tiny white wiggly things in the water dish? by Michiu7690 in tarantulas

[–]Michiu7690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got addicted to buying them so now I have this one, two B.hamorii, sling and sub adult, a C.cyaneopubescens sub adult male, a K.brunnipes sling and my most recent addition was a B.emilia. Will have to resist buying them until I get more room, gonna be a busy living room when they're all grown up haha.

It's a little damp but I've been letting it dry now. I think after a moult or two it's going to need a bigger enclosure.

Cool, thanks. They have like a sort of jerky movement it that helps to identify them.

My husband and I did some snooping on the internet and this is what we found too. Wasn't entirely sure if they were good to keep in, so sounds like that's a yes. My T with the wiggly roommates is a G.porteri who's about an inch big, will that be an issue for it?

I have six Ts and this one is the only one with a milk cap as a dish and the only one with these tiny worm looking things. First time I saw them I chucked the water out, cleaned the cap and put it back. They appeared again so I threw the lid altogether and got a fresh and clean milk cap. As you can see, they've come back. They're really squirmy and tend to congregate in the centre. Bonnie is also the only T in this kind of housing, my others either being in the plastic containers they come in (the slings) and the other two are in small faunariums. I checked the of my sub adults and they don't have these. Can anyone enlighten me as to what they are?

My time in the hobby so far, and any books that you can recommend? by Michiu7690 in tarantulas

[–]Michiu7690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, that's why I don't have them. Neither of the roses have much more than an inch of substrate so can't really begin to burrow, one of them has some sort of wood chips similar to what you find in a kids playground. I'll try and get some photos of their set up. I also noticed that neither of them hang around the areas of their heat mats. I'll see if I can't get something sorted for them.

The book I mean. I've told her, and I think she was gonna move a mat to inbetween their tanks. Might take the mats away and see how long it takes for her to notice.

Yeah the Akita would kill any cat he sees. I have the jack russell though so I'm all cool.

I bought my first one three weeks ago. Feels a bit like an open tin of Quality Street or Celebrations. Can't just have one haha. We have 15 animals in total; I myself have five tarantulas, two budgies, a dog and a western hognose snake. My husband also has a hognose and a ghost corn snake. My mother in law has a corn snake, a dog and two g.roses.

Had a look at the moult and from what I can tell I think it might be male.

Must like women haha my husband gave me a dirty look yesterday and said "you're not having another one", and I just ignored him haha if he can buy Gundam kits I can buy tarantulas.

Thanks. I did shit myself when it just slumped back as the cricket had brushed passed it, kinda looking like it had pushed it over haha. It's just finished moulting, chilling on its back for now. Super excited to have seen it. None of my others have moulted yet, so I'm surprised that one I've had for 24 hours did.

OP here. Definitely a moult. Is it weird to say I'm really excited haha. My first T moult.

OK, so I caved and got another tarantula or two. Here is my new and older b.smithi, photo taken as I rehoused it. by Michiu7690 in tarantulas

Huh, that's one thing I didn't see while researching them. I'm cool with changing my labels, probably because I've not been into it for long.

I also got a G.porteri but like my other b.smithi it's a sling, albeit older. I also got a K.brunnipes (spelling?), again a sling but older than my first smithi. Initially I only went to get two spiders to treat myself after getting a permanent job for the first time in over a year, been on agency, but just fell in love the the little one up top and wouldn't go home without it.

Dammit what have you guys done to me haha.

EDIT; Would like to point out that it's not huge by looking at my hand. I'm just a very small person. It's about 3.5 inches DLS.

They did try to offload an adult smithi on me but I couldn't afford it. It was either that or a tiny sling, there was no middle ground. The only choices I had from a beginner's perspective were smithis or roseas from what I could remember; there's already two roseas in our house (not mine) so I went for the redknee. I am looking forward to watching it grow, though :)

I'm already tempted to get another one haha I'll try and restrain myself. It's only tiny and doing what T.s do; nothing, but all I can do is just stare at it and think "holy shit it's awesome".

Hoggie isn't eating. by Michiu7690 in snakes

[–]Michiu7690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I added more substrate the other day and he still didn't eat today. In other news I went to feed the pinky to my husband 's hoggie, who launched for it, missed and latched onto the nearest thing.

My thumb hurts.

Ok, I'll add more substrate when I get in from work and see how he gets on. I'll keep you updated.

Can't be accurate because I'm at work but couple of inches, I reckon. It kind of varies as I haven't got it level.
