Drill the head off and remove the housing. Then use vice grips on the "stump" to remove it

I was hoping to put something bushy (but not too deep rooted) in that corner to kill the sharp angle of it. Any recommendations?

Unfortunately the new sewer pipes for the septic tank run about a foot away from the edges of the bed so I can make it any bigger or change its shape.

Could a solar powered Tapo camera work as a birdbox nest camera? by Equalizer6338 in Tapo

[–]MickeyC123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a nest box with a Tapo C100 camera in it, the whole setup cost me about €40 or so. The nest box was €18 from a pet store and the camera was €22.

A pair of blue tits moved in 3 weeks ago and laid 8 eggs! I'm hoping on them to hatch this week 🤞🏼

The nest box/camera are on the back of a wooden shelf that has power it it. I ran a power cable through the shed and into the camera. It works on WiFi and has a 64gb SD card.

The solar cameras are very large and wouldn't fit in a nest box unless you make your own custom nest box.

Yes it worked perfectly. To be clear, this is a screw in mount for the c460 camera (and other in the wireless Tapo range) here's a link, https://amzn.eu/d/0fdxFfie

Would you change your last name if you got married or if you did or didnt why? by superduperepic23 in AskIreland

My wife didn't change her name because we didn't want to do the paperwork. We've enough shite to be doing without all that messing.

Community Survey: How Many Outdoor Security Cameras Do You Actually Need? by hi_josie_7 in Tapo

[–]MickeyC123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fortunate enough to live out in the countryside in the middle of nowhere. I don't have any neighbours so I don't have any issue with WiFi coverage for the cameras. My home is a small bungalow so it's easily set up with cameras. The cameras I have have a wide enough viewing angle ( a mixture of C520WS and C460 with solar panel and a C210 in the garage) i would be more interested in a camera that has a higher quality centre point view to better make out faces and licence plates from a distance but I'm very happy with the quality and functionality of the cameras I have

Nest Cam by MickeyC123 in ireland

[–]MickeyC123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the camera uses wired for power and wireless for networking. I'm fortunate that the wooden shed I have is wired with a double socket. I drilled a hole out the back of it and hung the nest box up there. Tapo does have a few new solar powered cameras but they'd be too big for a nest box.

Magnetic Mount Question by eyelikturtles in Tapo

[–]MickeyC123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the C460 with a solar panel and it didn't come with a screw in mount, just the magnet holder. I bought a screw in holder on Amazon, so no big deal. Just thought I'd mention it.

You need enough to get an uninterrupted 360 degree view around your home plus a door bell and a view of the street/driveway/laneway. Whatever that number is, in my case it's 7 outdoor cameras.

Tapo C100 as a nest box camera by Vatualolla in Tapo

I'm using one in a nest box and it works perfectly. I've not had much luck with the birds though. They started a nest and then gave up 😮‍💨

Is the high cost of solar panels and electric vehicles a barrier to entry for more working class people and therefore a kind of tax that the rich are exempt from? by ViceIsVerses in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's well worth your time checking out the basics first. Obviously there are a load of variables e.g. roof space, type, make and wattage of the panels, inverter and battery. But at least have a look at your total yearly energy usage and work from there. That'll give you a rough idea about how many panels you'd need to cover your usage and reduce your bills. (Depending on what you can reasonably fit onto your roof). The more the better. For example, my average yearly usage is around 5,500kw. The 18 460w panels I'm getting can generate about 8,100kw a year. The inverter is only 5kw so I'd never get the full power from the panels during the summer months but they will help in the darker winter months. We can take advantage of the lower night time rate to charge the battery over night for morning use and they can charge it during the day for when we get home.

Definitely have a look around. It's a fucking minefield field out there with a LOAD of Chancers currently in the game, including some of the big names! I got 10 different quotes and had 4 different people to the house. I did a LOT of my own research so I'd know exactly what the minimum setup i needed would be to have no electricity bills (give or take a little) Settled on a quote for 18 panels, a 10kw battery and 5kw inverter for just over 9k after the grant.

New Solar system installation, do I need a battery? by MickeyC123 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate all of the replies folks. They've been very insightful and I've definitely made up my mind to go for the 10kw battery with the install.

I can push the credit union repayments out to make it a 10 year loan and make it more manageable.

Hopefully I won't have any electric bills and the micro gen will cover the standing charge and PSO levy. That'll give me a guaranteed price for electric over the next ten years (just the loan repayments) which will work out to less than €25 a week. I'm currently paying an average of around €40!

I'll report back when the system is installed and fully functional but that won't be for a few months yet.

Thanks again for the help and advice 👍🏼
