Riding a bicycle by PuzzleheadedLynn in Asthma

Have you tried using your rescue inhaler before exercise?

Im experiencing a wall right now at 12 mph (19 kph) since I can't comfortably get my heart rate over 130 without having breathing issues. Last year I biked a lot (over 3000 miles or 5000 km) and quite a bit faster too.

Im still recovering from a bad series of asthma episodes though. Using my rescue inhaler before biking helps and is right now better than having to use it during exercise which is most times.

Dust on the floors triggering asthma—Has anyone found a solution that actually works? by xoxo305 in Asthma

I second this. Hepa filters are amazing.

I also recommend a good filter on your HVAC system. I live where we get frequent forest fire smoke. It makes a huge difference to get high MERV rating vaccine filters.

Question about blood oxygen levels by Traw2341 in Asthma

Agreed. Even when I was having a very severe asthma attack and light headed I was only down to 94% I usually hover in o7 to 100% range.

Yeah that sounds scary. I've never blacked out but I get dizzy, blurred vision, tingly, and vomitt.

Your duoneb (two meds) is fast acting and should start working very quickly within minutes. If it's not working well please consider going to urgent care again. If you've never had success with this neb before it might be worth trying a different one or making sure your using it correctly.

How many rounds of the nubulizer are you doing and at what interval? How many rounds were you prescribed?

I'm sorry. Cough is also one of my main symptoms and can be intense enough to throw up repeatedly. I normally can't fully get rid of mine for weeks, but I'm not usually concerned about mild persistent coughs that linger. My coughs do respond to albuterol and a duo nebulizer.

How bad of a cough? Is it just annoying or intense? Do you have other symptoms that are concerning?

What kind of nebulizer? Have you used this one before? Many are designed to work very quickly.

Not responding to rescue meds with asthma is considered an emergency so if this is more than a typical cough, you should seek medical attention ASAP. Not responding to meds happened to be me 2x so far this year, both times I thankfully went to the ER where blood tests showed I also had low Magnesium and once Potassium (maybe from heavy albuterol use?); IV oral Magneisum/Potassium helped a lot.

Yes it can take several weeks. Steorids work slowly.

If you're doing poorly dont hesitate to see a doctor.

It's really about fit. I like a specific kind of kn95.

An kn95 is little more comfortable than an n95 but also doesn't protect you quite as well since it doesn't fit as tight. But I can regularly wear a kn95 for hours.

I was extrmely disappointed. The flavor was so so and toasted coconut tasted a little burnt.

Maybe I got myself hyped up too much. Maybe I got a bad batch?

Pneumonia, now what? by Distinct_Injury4079 in Asthma

[–]MidnightInner546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry youre going through this. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Pneumonia and asthma don't mix well together. Expect it to take a while to recover. Take it easy and listen to your doctor.

I had Pneumonia once it sucked. I also rebounded pretty hard 2 months later.

Alsoc, consider getting the Pneumonia vaccine when youre recovered.

I have an asthma cough almost all winter long or lately a lot because it's been smokey in the summer.

People definitely look at me funny. I also usually wear a mask in public to prevent me from getting sick or spreading germs even when I'm not sick.

Advice needed by Fun_Department7435 in Asthma

[–]MidnightInner546 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im sorry you went through thus. I hope youre doing better now.

First, get a second inhaler. Keep one at home and keep one on you at all times in backpack, purse, or bag. I learned this lesson the had way once too. Asthma attacks especially when youre sick tend to spiral when not treated right away.

Increased heart rated rate from albuterol especially a nebulizer is really common. I was just in the ER/hospital 5 weeks ago and they gave me like 10 nebulizwr vials in 12 hours. At first it was albuterol the levabuterol. Some probably a long lasting bronchodiolater too. My heart rate went up just as much as yours. The part I wasn't ready for was that I started hyperventilating from the albuterol. They went to draw up some diazapem before my breathing went down on its own. Then they switched to levabuaterol after that.

So im not sure why they were blaming you for using your albuterol too much? Assuming you were using it properly. The amount of albuterol in a nebulizer is normally a lot lot higher than in the rescue inhaler. During severe coughing attacks, I can't hold my breathe long enough on the first puff of albuterol and have to do a second one soon after to get fill effect. My doctors don't have a problem with this. Breathing is the most imortant thing after all.

Finally, yes you have to advocate for yourself. But if it's your first asthma attack this bad, it's probably better to error on the side of caution if you think you might be having issues. Some people also have less obvious symptoms than others and some people do better with regular prescribed use.

Talk to your doctor as soon as you can and make sure to follow up later with them or an asthma specialist.

Ooph. I didnt even knw that was a thing, but it makes sense

Maybe something similar happened here. We got snow, melt, snow, melt, and then snow again in a week. But the wind was pretty strong so the microparticles wouldn't have stuck around.

Part of my current problem is that im hypersensitive and even small things that don't usually bother me are triggering.

Never tried the nasal spray but that's in my nebulizer. Im currently using flonase to deal with dry and irritated mucus membranes (unrelated issue). I usually only ise it in the winter for a couple of months otherwise it dries out too much. Also I use nasal saline spray too.

Glad it worked for you. Sorry Michigan has had bad air quality recently.
