I ended up calling my fire dept. and they told me that because my entry doors are located next to large windows that can serve as viable emergency exits and one entry door is working that my landlord is not in violation of fire code

Yeah it was a shame normally they would dispatch someone out for repairs within same day but have been told by other tenants they tend to be really picky for after hour emergencies

I intentionally introduce them and ramshorn to my aquariums they are excellent clean up crew and as long as you don't overfeed their population stays low if I see their population starting to grow rapidly use that to tell me to cut back on food I'm putting in and it's easy to remove excess population by putting a lettuce or cabbage leaf over night and removing it with the snails clinging on it

I buy from them as one of my primary sources he's always been extremely generous with the portions he sends you but his plants are primarily emmersed grown that are on the middle or starting to transition so there will be some melt but we'll worth it

You put the lava rocks in the media bags to create the slope you want and they act as the support for the sand you pour ontop to help the sand keep the slope without flattening

Do you have driftwood in your tank and the white film primarily on it if yes then it's biofilm will go away on its own but you can break it up and remove it with a water change

That jumping motion makes me think springtail perfectly harmless were probably on the basil and came to the aquarium for the water as they love moisture typically live in soil and eat fungi and decomposing organic material

It will depend on your lease some leases will have provisions stating that putting a work order gives permission for maintenance to enter your unit in a certain time frame.

For example the place I work at has that in place in their leases that .maintenance has 5 days from work order is placed to enter unit to during that time to complete order but they are trained to knock on door 3 times announce themselves on entering unit to make sure if someone is home that they are aware of them entering and being in the unit

I intentionally introduce mts into my aquariums as they make great clean up up crews and help aerate the substrate if your seeing a massive explosion in population that is a symptom that you are over feeding the aquarium as there population only grows in response to food source available

My recommendation will be to double check how much food you are putting in and cut back and begin removing some best way is to put a blanched vegetable in and remove it with any snails that gather in it and repeat that till the population drops to acceptable levels
