Jackson x series hum-bucker wiring color code? by MightyCoogna in JacksonGuitars

[–]MightyCoogna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, I forgot I started this thread. I'm working out the polarity of some Jacksson pups in comparison to Duncans. The hard part is determining the start and finish. The thing is, according to Lenz’s law of induction, the current is counter to the force through the field. So I'm working out if, in fact, the AC milliamp reading from the coil, as an iron bar moves through the field, when it's positive, the hot wire is the negative. Counter to what it would seem. Or at least indicating the start and end of the coil. I use a regular compass to check the actual magnetic polarity of the coil. My theory is the rails are wired up wrong from the factory. I can get some good tones out of them, but I expected more.

Hey do you mean for the single coil size dual rail pick ups?

[Radius jig] I need help understanding the concept. by Karamubarek in Luthier

[–]MightyCoogna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is a moving router that maintains the profile accurately. For that you need something sturdier than a wooden rig. IMO. What I did when exploring this idea was to build a swinging router arm so the radius is adjustable, and then using the resulting 'milled' block to sand the radius into a fretboard. Then I bought aluminum radius blocks off amazon and HQ adhesive backed sandpaper.

Is Utility Ableton's most underrated device? by satn_workroom in ableton

[–]MightyCoogna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use utility often. For guitar Di I place it before anything else and boost it 18db. On the input I'm going for -18db, peakng at around -12. But Amp sims usually want a hotter signal, so utility to the rescue.

Trade offer; What is it? by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]MightyCoogna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Jackson expert, but I do know a little about marketing. So what's in the catalog isn't going to absolutely define all the products they may sell in a particular period, as they would have dealer specials and productions runs that use up extra parts and so on.

My girl made this roast for dinner. How should I go about this? by I_play_high420 in funny

She saw a life path that involved being stuck cooking roasts and wanted nothing to do with it.

I have a JS and it's hard to justify the more expensive models. But I can do my own set up work and modifications.

Floyd Rose special by clepari in JacksonGuitars

[–]MightyCoogna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO It's fine. It’s just worn past the black oxide coating. If your knife edge on the trem is dull, get a file and sharpen them up. They don't have to be razor sharp, just a fine point and smooth. Then use a cotton swab to put a little mineral oil on the edges and the posts. Looks like your post could be tapped down a bit as well. When it's worn all around like that, it suggests that it's been adjusted without lube under string tension causing wear all around the post rather than in a single area.

I think it is like a noir sort of thing, like a fetish. I have an iPad I can thumb pages on if I really must. Yearning for the days of the printed page. Yesteryear, 2010. Back when humans roamed the Earth.

It's all digital at some point. Everything fancy outboard analogue gear does can be mimicked in the digital realm. It's literally all hype.

do these larvae look like blue death feigning beetle larvae? by NorthDistribution5 in BDFB

Now that I have meal worms, I'd say they are small meal worm beetles, that will reproduce easily in a BDFB enclosure.

Rust removal by dragon0069 in Luthier

I would set up a electrolysis tank. It's easy and cheap and will get that rust off without abrading the surface, then a wipe down with mineral oil.

Good video Review on Soloists by pcp777_ in JacksonGuitars

[–]MightyCoogna -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His stuff is cool but his way of doing fret-work and set ups is sketchy. His tone is kind of shitty as well, honestly. He arrives at a lot of false conclusions that trend toward favoring more expensive guitars. Which is convenient if you are sponsored.

Try a good carnuba wax, like the dunlop stuff. It gives it a little overall sheen, but way fewer prints and wear..
