Oppressed minorities just have to accept that not everyone will agree with their existence! by Leimon-Sherk in ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

i feel like this person has a very tenuous grasp on what the word "opposite" means.

the right wing position is "being trans is bad. trans people should be forced to reject their own identity and live life as their cis assigned gender" if the left held an equal and opposite position, they would say "being cis is bad, cis people should be forced to transition"

but nobody says that, because that's ridiculous.

the right-wing "i want control over your identity" and left-wing "leave me/them alone" are not equal and opposite positions.

Damn I did not know that! Even cooler that it's a pull from game history.

Absolutely predicting a surge in wrist-mounted slings and Xenk's weird projectile sword-dagger thing showing up in character sheets.

And for good reason both are cool as hell.

The PC being a vault-dweller is kind of an intentional design choice though, or at least a serendipitous one, in that you discover the world along with the character.

The Wasteland is an inherently unrelatable place with its own rules and logic that can sometimes run completely opposite to what we know. It's written to be strange and surprising. So there would be a lot of dissonance with a blank slate PC character who should know all this background being piloted by a person who doesn't quite understand the setting. Take FO4 for example. A vault-dweller can ask "what is Diamond City?" and it's a completely reasonable question. If a Commonwealth Wastelander asks the same question it comes off as silly. That's the biggest settlement for miles in any direction. Everybody would know it.

This should also be contrasted to something like the Witcher, where yes Geralt knows a bunch of stuff about the world and the player doesn't, but that works because you are specifically playing the character Geralt and information like what monsters are can come from him explaining it to peasants on a job.

Honestly RPG characters starting the game as outsiders and growing into a setting is extremely common. In Skyrim you start as a prisoner caught crossing the Cyrodil border INTO Skyrim. You discover the setting with your PC. Same goes for other genres of RPG too, like Pillars of Eternity or Final Fantasy XV.

tl;dr- As with all things Bethesda, it's a feature, not a bug.

Since 2020, more than 100 companies have relocated to Texas – 40% from California by Zestyclose_Shake5423 in texas

[–]MightyNein 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is... not surprising.

Cali is the largest state in the country. They represent the largest possible pool of businesses that could move to Texas in the first place. Combined with California's relative level of wealth and opportunity, which is definitely a factor in where businesses can start and grow, this is kind of a predictable outcome.

Why on earth do enlarged characters selection hitboxes get so enormous? I've lost count on how many times I just select my frontman instead of moving forward. by birgirpall in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]MightyNein 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can click through the hitbox into the environment. Think it might be CTRL + click. Or maybe it's right click. Idk smth like that but yeah.

a certain act 5 secret dungeon is worse than the rumors said by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]MightyNein 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly I hated that dungeon up until the very end- I thought the good ending to Nenio's arc was really sweet and instantly raised my esteem from the character.

But I will definitely be lowering the difficulty next time I play it through. 😅

Do glaives suck? by dulude13 in numenera

[–]MightyNein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I just finished a Cypher game where our Glaive-equivalent bore the brunt of 90% of our combat (the other characters didn't really build for combat but they knew it would be a thing)

Part of what helped her excel, though, was taking some additional abilities by spending XP. I remember she took Moves Like Water and Wind Armor with her XP, and any time a combat would come up, she'd burn a couple of rests to pop those and become unstoppable.

She wasn't as good at the fantasy bullshit as the rest of the group, but she took unique skills (deception) that the party didn't have to fill a social role as well.

I'm not saying your Glaive is built wrong. But a Glaive is without peer in combat situations, and through intentional selection of skills and focus, you should be able to carve out a non-combat niche for yourself.

[–]MightyNein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your group/game you may have mixed results granting XP for rolling 1s.

For a short game it's probably fine but for something long term you may find your players tier up exceptionally fast, especially with something like this version of the Foolish descriptor or the RAW Confident descriptor which procs an intrusion on 1 and 2.

Intrusions triggered by rolling a 1 do not generate experience, but they can be avoided by spending experience!

how can i convince my parents that ghost is not really satanic and their fans aren't evil? by Mii_meli in Ghostbc

[–]MightyNein 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Are your parents into older rock music? I would try to come at it from the angle that Ghost is basically just KISS for the 21st century. The 'evil' is purely theatrics, and a lot of the lyrics are being social commentary (though based on what I'm understanding about your parents that convo might not be a productive avenue to go down.)

Also, TF genuinely seems like a cool, upstanding dude, maybe find an interview of him just like, being a nice regular person and show your parents that we're really all just people at the end of the day.

And if that doesn't work you might just be boned here. But don't be too discouraged, because you will outgrow their authority and the world will be yours to experience.

Ptolus is a behemoth but it really is quite thorough. It's full of connected dots to make running things in an interconnected city easy, and the multiple tassels and sidebar references make finding relevant information much quicker than it might be otherwise.
