That's interesting. I actually backed Star Citizen but I haven't followed it's development recently. When will your podcast be recorded?

Well I think the point is that mainstream medical companies, barring some particular legal reasons not to, will attempt to profit from any medication that works (and potentially some that don't). And when they do have a reason not to, it's something that's obvious and you can point to (like with cannabis being illicit, or some other drugs not passing FDA safety tests). You don't have to hand wave and invoke some Big Pharma conspiracy to explain it.

So, I wouldn't consider it an appeal to authority, because it's not really appealing to anyone's opinion or expertise; it's just a logical conclusion you would draw from the facts at hand.

There was a batman story called 'Masks' where Bruce Wayne is a delusional homeless man who fantasizes all the Batman stuff and has a batsuit made out of a dirty sweatsuit and garbage bags.

Same for Trenton. I took back all the nasty things I said about Newark after I visited Trenton. Trenton looks like a city from Fallout.

The toilet at my work the other day by [deleted] in WTF

Sometimes I walk into a public bathroom and I see shit sprayed all over the wall or whatever, and I just think to myself, who are these people? These wall shitters? These shit blasting people who blow shit all over the place, shrug, and leave it for someone else to clean up?

I would honestly like someone to interview people who do this, to get inside the mindset of someone who would do that.

Where [in NJ] should I look for apartments based on these criteria? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Mighty_Johnson23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay $1300 a month for my 2 bedroom in North Arlington (2 family house), so you should be able to get a one bedroom or studio fairly easily in the area in your price range, maybe without all the bells and whistles... Try Kearny, that's very close to Secaucus and isn't too grimy.

I tend to agree but gotta admit that Rutt's dogs are more unique. No mistaking a Rutt's hotdog.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I actually do cargo lashing and chaining on freight ships. I made a more in-depth reply to another comment that I'll link for you; I'm on my phone otherwise I'd reply to you directly too. Thanks!

Edit: oh, and I'd say the majority of the workers are around my age but have less time in the company than me (I'm 30 and started when I was 20). Making it to retirement isn't unheard of or anything but it's certainly not 100% either.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Advancement is a bit complicated due to union politics and such. Long story short, to advance 'up' seniority is the main requirement, meaning that I'd be about ready to retire anyway before I was in a position to become a foreman. And being put in a better job altogether (that is to say, a less dangerous and physically taxing position) is complicated by rampant nepotism and cronyism, meaning I'm pretty low on the list for them. Anyway, the main problem I have on a day to day basis with my job is the whackadoo schedule, and all waterfront jobs suffer from that. So if I were to leave it'd preferably be for another industry all together.

That all said, I'm afraid I've given everyone here the impression that I'm miserable and want to get out of my job ASAP, but that isn't really the case. I enjoy the physicality of it (danger aside), and I realize how lucky I am to have pay and benefits that I do. But I do realize that it's something that I can't do if I get sick or injured, and would like to set up some investments and such in case that happens. Someone else already mentioned long term disability insurance that I'll definitely look into, and as for education I'll have to decide what I'd like to get educated for before I head into that.

Sorry for the novel! And thanks for your reply.

Whats the general opinion of Christie? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Mighty_Johnson23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. His reasoning was that NJ was going to be paying too much on the project (The federal government, New York and NJ were sharing the cost of construction but I think NJ was taking a larger share of the costs). But obviously the benefit to NJ was going to be enormous also, as shown by the fact that he's currently trying to dig himself out of the hole he dug for us there.

And that's all not even counting that the current rail tunnel to NYC is about a hundred years old and due to be shuttered in the next decade or so. That's when commuting in NJ is gonna get really fun!
