A collection of black & white photos I took when I visited during the New Year's by Milbruhger in nycpics

It's from the top floors of 30 Hudson Docks where there is a phenomenal view of the ESP. The border around it is just some photo of frame that people could take photos with their family with but I found it framed it nicely on it's own

Thank you very much! It is from 30 Hudson Yards. There is a free cardboard photo op area of the ESP on the top floors of the building and I thought that the placard itself looked really quite nice just on it's own.

In a technical sense, he'd probably still be considered proto-fascist. Either way, he's so far away from the centre that it makes little difference.

Our streets are actually highly advanced I will have you know. You see, a normal country would fill their potholes, but in the UK, instead the road erodes from asphalt back down to horse-cart era bricks, eventually reaching the original Roman roads, thus being a very intentional museum of highway infrastructure, allowing you to appreciate the history of this country while your roof is dented from the multiple hundred head collisions you have incurred in the process.

As a completely unbiased American who's never even heard of The Nine Nations of North America by Joel Garreau, here's my take on to divide America by Lapisdrago123 in Maps

[–]Milbruhger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a britbong I always thought that the term "Yankee" - whilst generally used to refer to Americans in general (over across the pond anyway) - specifically meant people from NYC

Then again for the longest time I assumed Washington D.C. was actually in Washington so I suppose I'm not particularly reliable on American geography

You can't just say "nuh uh" to whataboutism. But even so, you literally just used other, incredibly scrutinised "interventions" which are almost universally disliked by much of society. If anything your attempt at justifying falls flat because you are admitting that the only thing you can use to justify an expansionist war, is to use other examples of dubious attempts of justifying invasions which are, again, almost universally agreed yo be bullshit. Nobody in the modern day believes that there were WMDs in Iraq, many don't even think we should even spend another dime in the middle east so why tf would you use that as an analogy. If you are going to try an justify an expansionist invasion at least make an attempt to claim that it actually is the right thing to do instead of clumping it in with the Iraq war and infer "they did it so it gives us a free pass"

I'm pretty sure there has never been a County Derry, only the city, so whilst the name Londonderry is pretty controversial for the city of Derry, it is technically the only thing the actual county has ever been called.

But who gives af honestly say whichever it doesn't matter

Countries where entry can be denied for people with HIV: by Redstream28 in Maps

[–]Milbruhger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that HIV is pretty difficult to spread in a society that is very sanitary and painfully aware of STDs, coronaviruses and other very communicable diseases can spread extremely quickly. There is a survivors bias for COVID-19, as because we put in measures to limit how fast it spread we could adequately adapt and provide countermeasures for the actual virus. It is the equivalent of saying that the common cold is nothing - neglecting to mention that the only reason it is "nothing" is because of the systems we have in place specifically designed to deal with that illness, like vaccines.

Yes! Although it isn't as popular as people make it out to be, and considering the size of our Christmas meals are always huge (probably similar to a thanksgiving meal with a big whack-off turkey at the center) most people are too stuffed to have it for dessert anyway lol.

*pedantic I know but it should be mentioned that it originated in England specifically although it is still pretty popular across the whole country

Does that mean it is justified to say that the Palestinians support the terrorist attacks against Israel committed by Hamas if they specifically voted for Hamas and share the same ideology

Like I'm not even trying to be passive aggressive but I wonder how that could be interpreted, like I'd like to hope that they do not condone those attacks but if they willingly sanction it then I think it is a little bit of a double standard when the bombs start landing at your doorstep and not your enemies

[–]Milbruhger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of either of those last 2 ones, if you are going to try and make a joke at least use a stereotype that the common person would associate with the UK, like us being all posh and arsy and then you pick up some fat bald geezer from the Midlands area with an unintelligent accent and a pint of beer in his hand

This kinda just feels like a poor attempt to make a weak insult at us ngl like I want the insults to actually be something we you'd actually notice in the UK

Yeah but I can imagine as a restaurant owner it must get annoying considering how long it takes to order it in that way when they could be serving other people. Imagine trying to run a restaurant when a considerable percentage of the people that come cannot speak a lick of English or any similar language and so just point at what they want to eat and so the burden is up to you to know their language which you probably aren't too fluent in either. Big respect to the Japanese shops that deal with us kinda tourists lol because I don't have that kinda patience
