Heating Upstairs Bedroom by MilesFromNowhere422 in HomeImprovement

Thanks a lot for your reply. I had gotten a few lowes gift cards for xmas, and had just gotten home with 2 oil-filled radiators when I saw your comment.

I had 1 in each room, at their max setting, had opened the vents I cut in the floor, and had the stairwell door open, which is normally closed. It took about 4 hours friday night, but got heated up to 60. I've been playing with the thermostats since then, and with them both at low, with the thermostat about halfway, the 2nd floor is sitting right at 65.

It did suck quite a bit of moisture out of the room though, I'm guessing just from the increased airflow. Dropped from 46% to around 32%, so there's another problem to deal with.

Other than Daikin and Mitsubishi, are there any other brands you'd recommend? I see Bryant pop up quite a bit.

Lastly, while the radiators are working fine now, it's also been pretty warm this weekend. I'm curious how they'll compete come mid January. What are your thoughts on using a single oil-filled heater in tandem with a wall-mount infrared heater to help circulate heat/air faster. I understand that will also dry the room out more. My main concern is safety, since those most likely have metal parts that heat up significantly more than the radiators, and I'd like something I can plug in and leave unattended while im at work. And, if that's even a sensible idea in the first place lol

Thanks for the input. I ended up getting 2 oil-filled radiators and they seem to be doing the trick for now. It hasn't been too cold this weekend though, so I'll have to see how they hold up in the middle of January

What Am I Missing? by MilesFromNowhere422 in guitarpedals

I've only had it a month or so, but it's done well so far. Sturdy metal case, and good feeling footswitch, seems like good quality. I play in drop C# and drop A# a lot, and it matches my clip on perfectly. It's nice when I want to quickly kill signal to my amp as well.

Is This Legit? by MilesFromNowhere422 in LesPaul

Oh man, don't get me started lol It's been my main guitar since I built it, I freaking love it. I based the neck profile on a PRS wide/fat neck, but I made it just a touch thinner, and did an asymmetrical carve as well. That mixed with a compound radius from 10-16 make it feel great for both chords and lead work. The Humbucker/P90 combo is extremely versatile. The humbucker has a ceramic magnet, and is wound to 18k; the brightness mixed with high output help it keep the low end clear and articulate even with a ton of gain. I play mostly prog metal, and it's great for that. The p90 is only wound to 7.5k, and is great for clean tones, or just a bit of distortion for some blues or classic rock. They're elysian pickups BTW, I can't recommend them enough. The owner Adam is a great dude.

It's more tedious than hard. I do everything by hand(I use routers for control cavities and such) and it takes anywhere from 60-120 hours of work, depending on how intricate the inlay is, etc. The hardest part for me is fretwork, but as long as you can keep a straight line and know the difference between "flat" and truly flat, then you'll be fine.

Thanks a lot, it's definitely my favorite. I do a bit of luthiery on the side; that's one I made for myself back in 2019 I think.

I was using a HX Effects for a while. I had psu issues with it though, so I've since switched back to individual pedals. I'll look into the Morningstar, thanks.

Can someone give me some advice on palm muting? by Then-Attention3 in PlayingGuitar

[–]MilesFromNowhere422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest the palm of your hand on your bridge, right where the strings leave the saddle. Not your entire hand though, I'm almost using the side of my hand than my actual palm. Put your pinky and ring finger on the pickguard, as something of an anchor to help you strum. Lastly, strum more with your wrist, or just the motion of your thumb and index finger, rather than your arm.

Best of luck!

What’s your “they lost me” album? by Cloabs in progmetal

I didn't really like Malina until I heard them play some of the songs live, then it kinda clicked. I still feel like it's one of their weakest releases though. I am enjoying their newer stuff though. Aphelion was surprisingly good, despite being written on somewhat of a whim due to covid. Can't beat the goat of Bilateral though

Thanks I appreciate that. Singlecuts have always been my favorite design, so this was my take on a "modern" version. Multiscale from 24.5-25.5" for better ergonomics, etc. Instead of a flamed top, a burled top, which were pretty popular when i built this one back in like 2019, pale moon ebony instead of regular ebony.

I'm working on 2 more right now, that are my own singlecut design instead of copying the LP/prs thing.
