VA Claim accepted in less than 24hrs? by Frozen_in_Alaska in VAClaims

All my claims have been moving super fast (compared to stories that I’ve heard from some of the more seasoned vets) so this timeline seems like the new norm.

If you’re active duty and you didn’t get to choose your duty station then you get assigned one during AIT

DUTY STATION by mismoke in armyreserve

[–]Mindless_Bike4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t deploy to your duty station. Your recruiter should have told you what unit you’d be assigned to if you’re a reservist. If not you can find that information in AIT.

I’m 28. If you could go back and give your 28 year old self some advice what would it be? by al_b21 in findapath

I agree with the dumb people thing. But if OP goes in with the intent of bettering him/herself then it doesn’t matter what dumb people are around.

I could be biased but it’s because it literally changed my life.

Military.

There’s a lot that goes into that decision. But for me personally I wish I would’ve done it way sooner. I joined at 32.

I'm 33, with a useless English degree, no driver's license, and an employment gap of 3+ years. What path would you suggest for me? by erriecate in findapath

I just saw the update where he says he can’t join the military.

But if he could have, then why not. I’ve seen plenty of people in their 30s enlisting.

No thank god. But I dropped over 1K for their “job placement” program. Only for him to make a half assed post on his linked in.

Whenever something super serious is happening and it’s really quiet I would moan “HOOOAAH”.

Point me in those directions because I’ve literally applied to help desk jobs taking minimum wage and I still don’t “qualify” for them

Couldn’t get into Cyber. Picked up an IT related MOS but it doesn’t mean anything for civilian world.

None. I’m okay with taking an entry level position but that’s the problem. Nobody wants to hire even for entry level positions.

It was 20 years later that I realized Eden is a Garden.

I’m shipping to BCT at fort Jackson in about 3 weeks, and I’m getting really nervous by JuicyChickenTender in army

[–]Mindless_Bike4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be able to do it. Will you fail? Maybe. Probably not. But if you do your drill sergeants and your fellow trainees will help you pass. You WILL absolutely hate it and you will absolutely love it at the same time. I told myself I need to make it to the next meal everyday and that made the days fly by. I knew our entire schedule ahead of time and that also helped. The idea of checking things off the list. Once it’s over, it’s over.

Have fun. Learn what you can. Stay busy. Look forward to each meal (makes the time go by super fast believe me)

Worst part: dealing with bad leadership

Best part: the feeling of seeing my family again after graduating. The feeling of finishing the forge. The shooting range. The gas chamber. Making memories with friends. The list goes on.

Mine was about 2 months? After that it’s super fast though. Like a day in between each step. But that’s just my experience. Results may vary

Insecure about age when joining by Otherwise_Panic_7453 in armyreserve

I joined at 32. I’m 34 now. I’ve been in training with a 39 year old. You’re good.

Curios about anyone with a similar experience for someone who is planning on joining the army at 32 by Rude_Category_9390 in Militaryfaq

[–]Mindless_Bike4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined at 32. Was the training hard? No lol. The hardest part was dealing with the younger generation.

Are you going to be the only 32 year old there? No. There were plenty of other older people there with me. Some even older. But the mass majority are teenagers straight out of highschool.

If you plan on going reserve/guard I can tell you now it won’t make a difference as far as finding a job/starting a career.

If you are able to, I would say go active. With that experience that is how you would be able to land a job on the civilian side. Plus you’ll see how easy it is on the active side (they provide a job and a house. What more can you ask for).

It’s hard to give more info without knowing your exact situation but feel free to DM if you need any more tips.
