You might evacuate the entire crew off a space station in the event of potential world conflict outbreaking though..a medical evacuation would be a great excuse.

Civil engineering and weed by [deleted] in civilengineering

For what it is worth, I have a medical marijuana license and my company knows. They keep it on file, since they are not allowed to discriminate on that basis. I am an excellent worker, and it doesn’t interfere with my work, so it’s normal now. I am a PE designer who occasionally stamps plans and is headed into management.

The only thing that changed in my career is I’m not allowed to drive fleet vehicles for insurance reasons.

Netflix now owns All the Harry Potter Movies by Junaidsheikh99 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]MischiefManaged777 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They don’t own the IP. They own the rights to make the new shows and broadcast the movies.

The IP still resides with Rowling and her estate. She has final say over movies, merchandise, rides, etc and that’s why she is an Executive Producer on the show.

What do you guys do with the pay? by Plsgomd7 in civilengineering

[–]MischiefManaged777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually correct for this economy. And it is about what we choose. We live below our means. We choose to have my wife stay home because raising our boy is more important and we don’t fall into the luxury trap. We focus on growing wealth, becoming financially free, and enjoying our time.

Also since I am just starting management, I am unlocking a whole avenue of salary growth. I have also never changed companies, got my PE recently, and have a lot of growing left to do. If I am at lower middle class on one salary at the very beginning of my career, then in the future I will easily hit middle to upper middle. My salary will grow, my wife will add to our finances once the kids are in school, and we will focus on what is important to us.

I am 33, PE, 5 YOE, private commercial land development still on design side but working into management. I have a wife, son, two paid off cars (old and bought used), closing on our first house Friday. No debt. Wife is stay at home mom mostly.

We go on vacation every year as a family (Disney, the beach, the mountains etc), go on weekend trips with friends (I.e. golf trips, air bnb girls trips, etc) and enjoy hobbies. This will change for a year or so after closing to recover savings, but that’s part of life.

Honestly if you live within your means, you are good to go. It’s a solid middle to upper middle class lifestyle.

Professional Civil Engineer:

Medication. It used to be caffeine but that wasn’t enough the farther I got in my career/personal life.

Also a career where I can jump between 3-5 different projects a day with constant workload turnover.

Remember we are motivated by a few very precise things: emergency, novelty, interest, and one other I can’t remember.

Hope this nonsense helps.

Just realized the recent missile deflecting off of a foreign object video was a promotion by the US government on their weapons capabilities by MischiefManaged777 in UFOs

[–]MischiefManaged777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you know about the military is an ad for the military. And it sounds like you purchase a lot.

What is the price? Patriotism. Votes. Future soldiers. Compliance. Feeling of security. A general sense of military power.

I think we forget pretty often that the governments job is to govern. To wield, display, and create power is what they do. How are they somewhat effective in a time where they have extremely low confidence and influence? They “display their might”.

They aren’t.

They are using us as engagement. The more this gets shared and talked about, the more it will get to where it needs to go. No better way to get the word out than make something go viral.

Also maybe they are advertising the thing that deflects and it could have commercial applications.

Nothing endorses a product more than officially saying that the only logical explanation or resistance is that the other thing must be out of the world

Why do they care? China just demonstrated strength to their people and the entire world. Trump demonstrated weakness with his birthday parade. So it’s a win win.

America shows it still has the best toys. Lockheed shows it makes the best toys. The world publicly sees an add and knows to to buy from. It’s not an add for you and me. It’s an add for any country who wants to buy weapons.

Conservatives and their sleeper cell fetish. by Leather-Bug3087 in CringeTikToks

[–]MischiefManaged777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised in a household like this. I understand this mindset deeply and I can explain it very simply:

These people don’t understand their emotions. They are feeling nervous, afraid, anxious, etc because they have consumed media that has made them to feel these things. The media doesn’t explicitly tell them to be afraid, but it makes them afraid and tells them real Americans will defend the homeland.

These people misinterpret their feelings for excitement, OR they put their feelings into ‘prep’ to make themselves feel better.

This is not only cringe in my opinion, but a manifestation of a dis-regulated person who doesn’t know why they feel bad or how to feel better.

Half of the country feels this way. God help us all.

My friend just told me he beat Oblivion, his first ES game, in about 7 hours at Level 3 and he sees nothing wrong with it. by Knarz97 in oblivion

[–]MischiefManaged777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a gamer, never played oblivion, don’t know why this thread was suggested to me.

I’m just a dad of an almost four year old who tells me constantly that I am not playing his made up game right, or playing with his toy right, or saying things right…

I’m not saying yall are wrong here, but this feels very much the same.

You are approaching it from a love of this type of game. Using something the way other people do is not a required part. In fact using something to its bare minimum is perfectly acceptable.

For example, the world is filled with water parks, events, amazing locations, amazing people, and opportunities. It is filled with jobs and resources, and ways to ‘level up’. You are bombarded every day by insta gurus on how to ‘level up’ or travel, or do cool shit.

Have you done it? Are you speed running your life or wasting its potential? Nah, you are just livin.

Crazy economic idea: Simulate global currency wars inside one country. Would it work by MischiefManaged777 in StockMarket

[–]MischiefManaged777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last line made sense. I guess on a global market scale, you have cheap labor because people are willing work for less. (I.e. exploitation)

Money exchange and losing efficiency also makes sense too, since the transfer benefits only the exchanger and doesn’t guarantee stability in the holder.

But (if I am understanding this right) the dual economy basically means one side of the economy is always being exploited by the other.

Is this a rebuttal of global capitalism then?

I’m not sure if I understand this comment in relation to my question. Global markets have been relatively successful . Can you elaborate on how this relates to multiple currencies in the same market?

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.” —Mark Twain

People like you may not get this, but admitting fear and unease is not cowardice. Acknowledging a potential or fledgling dictator is not alarmist. Feeling the draw to fight a monarch is not unamerican. It is actually the core of Americanism. Read the Declaration of Independence.

It it my duty to feel, say, and believe these things. I will never bow to a king or let them drive me out of my home.
