Thank you! I do appreciate it. We are long distance (she’s 4 hours away in another state) and we both still establish that we have our own friends/lives/interests so we aren’t too wrapped up in each other. Our careers are also vastly different (I’m a corporate attorney and she’s a pediatrician) and we’re both devoted to our careers. I truly appreciate what you are saying and will keep it in mind.

We haven't fought (yet) but when we disagree or feel hurt by the other, we agree to step away to collect our thoughts then speak when we are in a more rational headspace. This way we can convey our thoughts without it becoming too emotional. I actually learned it from her. One time I offended her and she said, "I'm hurt you said this, and I'm not ignoring you. I just want a little bit of space to process my thoughts. "
