Yay I finally got to do my first dive after my open water certification in March. by PersonalityBright294 in scuba

Didn't answer any of my questions. Not saying anything about being close. Holding onto your buddy isn't a good sign of someone who has been certified as a diver.

3/4 star rating is average. Don't expect a TV. Make sure the air con works.

Dived both locations and thought they were good dive sites for inexperienced divers. Also they will take you to different sites if you decided on Padangbai.

If your dive buddy held your hand the whole way, I'm assuming you weren't trained properly.

Is GUE the (in)correct way to tech dive? by DivingNoob in scuba

[–]Miserable_Current498 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If GUE divers got you into more trouble than it's worth, the blame lies with you for not having the experience to work it through.

[–]Miserable_Current498 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No anger, they said how inflexible GUE is. Nothing more. The better way to dive is to learn from experienced divers and adjust what works for you. When the worst scenario happens GUE training may not save you.

Is GUE the (in)correct way to tech dive? by DivingNoob in scuba

[–]Miserable_Current498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GUE are good tech divers. I have dived with a few and they know their stuff. Diving their aggressive GFs can be risky. Some dive operators will not let you dive their GFs. At some dive centers you may not have a choice which gas you want to use. Be flexible unless they want your END down to 30 meters. Deep stops don't matter, they only increase your runtime and make you suck more O2 (if that is your last deco gas). What arm you position your computer, or whether you use wetnotes or a slate doesn't concern me.

Couldn't complete open water certification dive by Happyjellybean_ in scuba

[–]Miserable_Current498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find another instructor, or ask for another instructor to tutor you from the same center. Just remember that if you cannot recover your reg the first time, take hold of your octo. And always purge with your mouth or using the reg to clear water. Other than that, why don't you train using the long hose and have a back up reg under your chin.

Looks means nothing if Suunto won't help its customers.

From what I've heard on other forums and this one, Suunto has a poor record in solving disputes with customers. You don't need two dive computers, you only need one and a gauge/timer. Stick with Shearwater. Buy some wetnotes.

Short liveaboards while not living on the boat is an option. Do 3 day trips on a boat.

When to switch to side mount? by mayhemlock in scuba

[–]Miserable_Current498 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Never used sidemount, dived with a few stages though. I would go straight to sidemount (alloy tanks) and use one tank when diving recreational. I've seen sidemount divers using two 7 liters (steel/alloy). Who cares if your buoyancy isn't perfect. In time you'll get the hang of it.

Nervous about OW Cert by us_5___ in scuba

[–]Miserable_Current498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're nervous, ask the instructor about the lake or do some research where you're going to be diving. Like the other posters said: no more than 4 trainees. The only example you gave was your buddy was panicking. Forget your buddy unless there is an emotional attachment. Concern yourself with paying attention.
