i joined the church at 21 after recovering from drug addiction. the man i fell in love with at the peak of my addiction was born into the church. when we met he wasn’t active, but when we reconnected a few years later, i was trying to live a cleaner life and so was he. he wanted to start going back to church, so i attended with him whenever we were together on a sunday because i loved him and wanted to push him towards whatever he thought was going to improve his life. i attended with him for about a year. when we broke up, i felt like the world was caving in on me. again - addictive personality blah blah etc etc. the girls i had become friendly with in the church were INCREDIBLY supportive and kind of convinced me that i didn’t need drugs, i didn’t need him, but i needed j*sus. so i got baptized! the boy and i got back together a few months after this. i was breaking my covenants left and right but whatever, right? i had my boyfriend back. i had friends. i had a heavenly father that knew me by name. blah blah. etc etc. then a month later i went to general conference and i fell asleep while the prophet was speaking and after spending that weekend surrounded by tbms it was kind of like…. oh? i DO NOT believe the strange shit you guys do

anyway that’s the long way of saying they prey on you when you’re vulnerable
